12" OAL Forged Blade

Just finished forging this blade out of old high carbon spring steel farm implement. Forgot to get a picture of the piece before I began but it was hooked shaped; you can see a piece that is left over just in front of the blade. I just finished quenching it and it hardened nicely. I'm getting ready to put it in for two tempering cycles. Most likely I'm going to put micarta scales on this one.

Nice looking!! I'm gearing up to start doing this too. Need to get my new larger forge built though and collect a couple more sets of tongs and a couple hammers.

Thanks O7, the one burner I have does a good job. I think this blade pushed it's limits though. The proper sized tongs are the key. I like the ones that hold the blade spine to edge but several different sizes are required. I have a wolf jaw but I havent' used it yet. I've heard it said and I agree it is addicting.

I have some flat jaws. Want to get a pair of box jaws and the type that holds the blade from cutting edge to spine.
