Think I'm ready to make my 1st knife!

Ok. First I'd buy a simple high carbon steel to start with. 1075 or 1084 even 1095. They are the simplest to heat treat. They wont break the bank and can be purchased from Pop's knife supply or any of the knife supply stores online. Heat till just past nonmagnetic then quench in oil. I use...

    Plunge Line Question

I cut some shims out of a Coke can and put them between the platten bracket and the main body of the pattern. Worked perfectly for me. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    Plunge Line Question

I had a similar problem a while back but only in one side. I found the cause was that I had a gap of about 1/16" between the belt and my platten on one side. Might check and make sure that your platten is adjusted correctly. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    Pictures of my mistakes/knives

What size grinder are you using? That's not all bad for a first time. Get some mild steel to practice with and get to know your grinder better. That way your not wasting the good stuff. practice practice Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    1st time grinding

Keep at it And don't get frustrated. I have found that it is a lot easier to fix most bad grinds post heat treat. The steel doesn't grind away near as fast and is a lot more forging. I also agree with AR. Fresh sharp belts. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
