I picked up a SteelCraft Mini Bodega recently and was blown away.

I'm of the opinion these days that 14C28N is probably the best steel found on sub $50 knives these days. It seems to have killed off 13C26 and of course Kershaw is to thank for that.

Case makes several Damascus pocket knives, like their Peanut and Swayback Jack.The quality is great and the price won't break you. Alternatively How about going French? Fontenille-Pataud has several nice designs, including a shorter "gentlemen laguiole", or an open Le Thiers, or the "U Cumpa".
