    History Channel....Forged in Fire

Im an exteme newbie :) And I really enjoy the show... but I have a pretty fair knack for "suspension of disbelief" ... or in this case, just accepting it for what it is. Personally my fave episode is the Viking axe one (note, I dont know ANY of the participants, but I am well aware they are ALL...

Craftsman 2x42 Grinder, Mods and Troubles

I've got the same grinder with essentially the same mods... all but the top wheel. I just use my old 4x36 for that. Plus I was concerened it would weaken it too much to cut the top half off (as I had already cut the bottom part off). While Im sorry to hear yours broke, I appreciate you telling...

How to prevent this? fit/finish question

I had a similar issue... turns out the table on my drill press was just a TINY bit cocked (i mean like an incredibly small amount, couldnt see it with the eye, took a angle gauge to see it)... minor adjustment made, no more pin issues... and now I check it every time I drill a hole. Saves a LOT...

    I'm not hating it :)

Thanks guys :) i did find a couple of videos showing people sitting while grinding, so I guess I just need to keep practicing (which was what I was planning on anyway :) ) ... Guess I'll go buy some steel and get some things ready to grind :)

    I'm not hating it :)

Ok so today I cut out something vaguely knife shaped so I could practice on actual blade grinding. This is my very first ever attempt. It's a long way from where I want it to be, but I don't hate it :) it's better than I thought it would be for sure (I only did one side) ... It's got that weird...

    Looking back 2 years

Yeah, you're making amazing progress. We are always our own worst critic :)

    My efforts to date

Finished up two more this weekend. I have one more premade blade to finish (another cancer benefit donation) and then I'll be making them from scratch... Blades and all :) Anyway: Black Micarta, copper liner and pins I screwed it up a tiny bit, the handle is too far into the ricasa...

    Easing in a little deeper...

Thanks Brandon! Im not talking about the removable side shroud, I never even considered using it, its in the box, where it belongs :p Im talking about the part of the housing at the very bottom that "cups" the lower contact wheel. Its SO close to the wheel that a 36 grit belt, or a scotchbrite...

    Easing in a little deeper...

I'm working on the various mods now... Curious, has anyone has seen a video or walkthrough on cutting the bottom part of the belt guard? It looks like it's plastic, over thin metal, so maybe a Dremel could do it?

    Easing in a little deeper...

(Yes, that's a play off Mudman's diving in :) ) After messing around with a Harbor Freight 4x36 (and being fairly frustrated with it), I bought a Craftsman 2x42. I know it's not that badass, but it's MILES better than the 4x36 :) And of course, first step, get rid of that annoying chunk of...

My firstwebsite is up. Looking for feed back.

I'm 4 months late to the party, but I just wanted to add, you don't have a mobile theme for your site, so if someone goes there on a mobile device, all they see is a weird industrial picture and a little house Icon... On the bright side, the full site version looks pretty decent on the small...

    Home-made grinder question

Ive seen a couple of videos on YouTube of these home made grinders using "repurposed" treadmill parts... and looking around it seems like a great way to get a 2-2.5 HP Variable speed motor for under $200 (I found one on Craigslist for $100 that was a 2.5hp, with a nice slider for speed control)...

    Recent Leatherwork

You know Steven, it really isn't fair to the rest of us that you're that good at the Leatherworking AND the knife making! :) LOL great job, the Flag one is simply amazing. It can be really easy to make something like that look cheesy, but you did it with a boatload of style!

I made it into Blade Magazine!

OutStanding! And well deserved honor :) I do have to say, I'm not really surprised. Your work is incredible, and going back over your "First Year" posts., really keeps me inspired.

    My efforts to date

And finally, my wife LOVES Damascus, but I have been hesitant to try it, don't want to screw up something expensive... Anyway I saw this little guy on usaknifemaker.com, for $56. My wife has small hands and loves little knives, so I figured this was perfect. After I showed her the blade we went...

    My efforts to date

Ok, been sick, dealing with a back injury and just far too much at my primary job and my side job... But I did get a few more done :) (again, these are all premade blades, I'm just attaching/shaping the handles). I'm going to be picking up a different grinder soon, because I REALLY want to work...

    First time grinding and....

That second one is outstanding! :) And I know what you mean about grinding the tip too much, I did the very same thing on my first one... I think its about to become.. tanto-esque when I lop the tip off completely :)

    A little validation :)

Its called Desert Camo, but the pictures on the site dont really look like what it does once you get it ground, and my pictures dont do it justice. Its got a very "deep" look, lots of translucency looking on in the brown and gold. Its really a cool one, and not something you see every day...

    A little validation :)

A friend of mine is battling breast cancer (she has a great attitude, and I know she's gonna kick it's butt!) ... Anyway, they were doing a benefit for her and they asked me for a donation, so I said sure, I've got enough stuff to get one ready... So I start putting together this one : Well...
