  1. Gary B

Hello everyone. I am logged back on after a hiatus of 2 or 3 years.

Got disenchanted with forums, the internet and all that and took a break. I hope to hang around for awhile and catch up to what has been going on in the knife world and get back to making a few. Anyone who remembers me, stop by and say hi, and I'll be posting once in awhile I imagine. Gary B

Can someone help ID these knives???

Sold Thanks for all your help guys. Being able to provide a little history enabled me to sell it for the lady at a pretty decent price. Darned waki's just don't bring much seems like. If it had been the first smith Bubba identified it would have gone quite a lot higher. It really doesn't...

Can someone help ID these knives???

Hey Bubba-san. Thanks for the look up. That's mighty impressive. I don't think I have ever held anything that old before. My wife just said of course I have...my socks.:(( GB

Can someone help ID these knives???

More pics Hi guys. I have some better pics of the waki now. It is really a pretty nice sword up close. The profile including the point appear to be full and the nakago appears untouched to me so it isn't a shortened katana. I was surprised when I saw that the blade was signed. Many waki's...

Can someone help ID these knives???

Hi Bubba-san. I haven't been around much lately and so haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope all is well with you. Like I told Laurence above, I hope to see the Waki in person in the next day or two. If it has a signature I will brush white chalk into it for a photo then brush the chalk...

Can someone help ID these knives???

Hi Laurence, I had pretty much the same opinion but I don't have any more to go on right now than you do. The lady who got them sent me those pics in an email. The pair seem to have something stamped in the handle that I can't read. I am guessing that's where she got the Sterling Silver...

Can someone help ID these knives???

I got these pics from a local woman who got them in an estate sale and she needs to know what they are and a ball park on their value. The waki I can figure generally on my own, but the three knives stump me. I figure they are middle eastern and probably modern but can't get any farther than...

    Phill Hartsfield custom Push knife

Good for you sir. I am always glad to hear when a collector wants to keep something special and profit is not the sole motive in acquisition. That's a neat looking little knife there. Enjoy.:thumbup1:

    What's everyone working one?

WOW! Steve, That knife is a knock out. You really outdid yourself on that one. But for all that I think your WIP/Tutorial page is at least as great a piece of work. Absolutely dynamite layout and photos. We can all use your page as a school. Thanks.

Do the cobbler's children have shoes?

Feels weird huh? Maybe if Les and I quit clowning around you'll get more legitimate responses.

Do the cobbler's children have shoes?

Good question... I have given up on trying to carry "one of my best" as a PR effort. I know I should have one like that to show, but there are two good reasons I don't. I do Japanese style blades with hamon or temper lines. Around here that doesn't mean much. Any knife that costs more than...

    NEED SOME STEEL

Thanks Steve. Somehow I missed that one. Called Kelly this afternoon and will have the steel by Thursday. Can't hardly beat that huh?2thumbs

    Forging "new Steel" with Aldo

Come on Aldo. Lets see the new knife. I just heard (from you) today about this steel. Sounds like a cleaner and maybe tougher form of 5160. The Chromium will probably kill the hamon but it should be a killer working steel. Stabber... If Aldo is going to oil quench you should clay up and...

    EDCs: Fixed Blades vs. Folders

I almost always wear one of my fixed blades. I have found that in this one instance being fat is a benefit. I wear this one horizontal above my left front pocket. With a fat roll and an untucked T-shirt it's invisible yet readily accessable with either hand. Occasionally I also clip my Les...

    NEED SOME STEEL

Steve... Thanks buddy, I'll give him a try. Les... Thanks. I have 1/4" but need some thin stuff for some kiridashi style grafting knives for the Bonsai club. Needs to be cheap... err..inexpensive for that purpose.:D
