What happened to the knife community???

Social media places are NOT the place to find anything - like ya'll I MUCH prefer forums. Much easier to find past posts and threads.

    Still got it. (Nakiri)

I just looked at this thread again today. I realize my reading comprehension has always been poor. Now 80 my next birthday it's got really bad. I see the very first line in your post says "curly rosewood". How did I miss that? I also mentioned how nice the bolster looked without really...

BTW Alden, I do like the scroll work on the bolster. How did you do that? My plan would be with a laser.

Dummy me - I never even thought about clicking on spot for photo. Perhaps it's due to the image size. The click only are over 1 meg in size while the images that show are in the 400k range. Seems like there used to be a size limit. Below is 319kb in size. I should have reduced the canvass...

    Cheap IP66 VFD

Yes, it's 220 vac 1 ph input with 220 3 ph output. I'm running it now and it works just fine. Let's see how long it lasts. For a $100 can't go very wrong.

    Cheap IP66 VFD

I need to post a bit more often in this forum - it's always been my favorite because of the GREAT sponsor and folks who share their knowledge. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/IP66-220V-380V-Water-Pump-Inverter_10000033281732.html?spm=a27aq.27095423.1978240560.1.78372277JP4tjp Since most...

    Still got it. (Nakiri)

That is a good looking knife - With the thin blade profile I'll bet it's a slicer! What wood is that? I do like the bolster. Even if that's the "one of two" knives you made each yr it sure looks like a professional made knife.

    Corby screw up.

My luck I'd have to remove the scales (destroying them most likely) and start from scratch. Good luck - the idea of drilling with a small bit to start the hole, then perhaps finishing up with a flat end type endmill might work ok. The hole will need to be large enough to completely remove the...

What happened to the knife community???

Robert, I've been trying to respond to your post since Monday but life kept getting in the way. I agree there are much fewer folks posting these days. I know I do less - still drop by to read most days. I'm making fewer knives myself, but still enjoy it. Is your website still active? I...

Dennis, you might not be making many knives these days, but the knives you do make sure are nice. Good work.

Nothing wrong with taking your time and doing it right - which from the looks, you're doing good work. Keep posting updates as you make progress

    Kiribati knifes

From what I've read, for a right handed person the bevel would be facing toward the right. Check this link: https://a.co/d/0bKlJwjE to see what they call a right hand

    VFD and Motor Wiring

OK, I understand a bit better now (coffee's kicked in?). AS Sean said, you'll need to look at the motor nameplate to check the wiring there. It'll show low voltage ( 220vac which is what you'll want) and high voltage (460vac). The KBAC manual has pretty good wiring info - the motor will have...

    VFD and Motor Wiring

Larry, I guess my coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but I'm a bit confused about what you're asking. Are you saying you have an existing KMG that has a 3ph motor with a KBAC VFD that's working. KMG has a good setup there for sure. Are you asking how to wire up an additional 3ph motor and KBAC...

Big Brut-de-Forge Bowie in Desert Ironwood

    That sure is a NICE Desert Ironwood burl for sure. Very nice. What type of finish is on the blade? Would you share how you did it? Good job all around - a knife you can be proud of... or should I say sword? {g}

    110vac VFD drives

I remember how hard it's been to find a 120 vac input VFD. Here's a HUANYANG VFD Variable Frequency Drive,1 Phase Input, 3 Phase 0-400HZ Output, 2.2kW 3HP for $95 shipped. Of course this is a NEMA 1 enclosure, but with filters over the air inlets that's not so much of a problem. A 1.5KW 2hp...

    Dagger construction

I am NOT an expert on daggers. The very next step (for me) would be to weld the threaded extension, then Ht'ing. Heating after the extension is welded on will help release the stresses that build up during welding. I'm a big fan of profiling (including thinning down to final thickness)...
