    Chef knife steel question

Another "in the middle" option would be CPM D2. I find it to be a very good performer in the kitchen, and very resistant to staining. Regular D2 will take on a patina fairly quickly, but for some reason the CPM D2 resists it quite well... of course, if you want to force a patina, FeCl3 will...

    Fillet Knife in CPM D2

I made this as a gift for my wife's grandfather who just turned 85. He is an avid fisherman, and had been complaining about edge holding in his current fillet knives. I came up with this to help remedy the problem: Blade Steel: CPM D2 (HRC 60) Scales: Ivory Canvas Micarta Hardware: SS...

Scott, I'm glad you enjoyed it... these really are a lot of fun! I think we'll announce next years in early 2014. Of course, there isn't anything stopping anyone from organizing another one. I know some of the other sub-forums here have had some recently. As a part time maker, I personally...

(I know I said to post in the pictures thread, but everyone has been posting here, so I will too...) I received my knife from Jasun (Jericoh) on Friday. It's a pretty sweet package! The sheath has a pouch to accommodate a Leatherman Wave, and he was generous enough to provide one. This...

Oh.. Jericoh will send to me. Please make sure you are able to receive PMs so you all can get the shipping addresses. To keep it simple, the makers sending should request the info from the person they are sending to.

OK... 9-7-3... 9+7 = 16. Here was the final list in order of "I'm in"s that were posted. Given that we had 15, the list would wrap again, or 1=16... so....ehem...looks like you send to the person under you! :what!: Precisely the thing I was trying to avoid with my overly complex...

Well, I guess that's it. We ended up with 15 out of the initial 29 participants. Thanks to everyone that participated this year. For those that couldn't make it this time, keep an eye open in this forum after the first of the year. I hope you all had fun. (Tuskbuster - I know you didn't, but...

Ok guys, crunch time! About 5 1/2 hours to go. I've been trying to maintain the list at the beginning of the thread as changes come in. I just went through it again, and I believe everything is accurate at this point. If I have overlooked something, please let me know. The evening Illinois...

No worries, Fred. Take care of your back! We got off to a late start this year. Next year we'll probably announce in late January or early February with a target deadline of mid-July. This actually started as a "Christmas in July" sort of thing, so we'll try to get it back on track..

Thanks! The tool is just some pin stock with a blunt cone shape ground at the tip. Then I tap it a few hundred times with an 8 oz. hammer. I'm sure there are less labor intensive ways of doing it, but this method has served me well. As far as the count goes, we are at 14 right now...

Thanks, Ted! I'm looking forward to it as well. This thing fought me tooth and nail, and after dropping it on my filthy shop floor last night, I've spent a good many hours trying to clean that up. Honestly, i wish I had another week...

Well, here is what I came up with. This is a dressed up version of a model of mine I call the DUK. This is usually a "three piece" knife with a hollow grind and synthetic scales. Most of them have a blasted finish as well. This on is flat ground from CPM D2 at about .140". It has Ironwood...

Official KnifeDogs 2013 KITH PICTURE thread!

It's my pleasure, Dick! I hope everyone is having fun with this. The real thanks should go to the members of KnifeDogs that participate in events like this. The amount of time and effort any maker puts in to a project, only to hand it off to "the next guy" says a lot about the knifemaking community.
