    Blue Lightning Stecil

Yep... Ernie rocks! Now I'm going to have to try plain ol' saltwater... I can't even remember what all I mixed together for my current concoction... (get it?.."current" ), but I know there is TSP, water, maybe some salt..etc. Simple is better!

    need help w/handle material

I was in a similar situation as you. I was making a set of knives for my mom, and she has a very "established" theme going on in her kitchen. Needless to say, the colors I was looking for weren't readily available in typical synthetics (micarta, G10, etc.) but I thought about recon stone...

    Mobile 1

I don't think I've chimed in on this yet... at least not in this thread. When I first read Franks suggestion a few years back about M1, I believe a lot of the discussion was aimed at reducing the "fish-hooks" and swirls that drive must of us nuts when hand sanding. Of course, if there was...

    3rd Annual KD July KITH

I'm excited... we're starting to get some warmer weather. My shop/garage isn't heated, so it's pretty sporadic over the winter. I started one before it got cold that I think might be kind of cool. It's definitely different than what I've been making lately, but in a good way (IMO)

    3rd Annual KD July KITH

I don't think we started another thread last year, but people would post that they received it and possibly a picture in the main KITH picture thread. Here's last years picture thread if you haven't already seen it...

    Stainless

James and Frank -I'm definitely not concerned with engraving on most of what I make. If I ever get a wild hair, I'll go with the 416 again. I have a big slab of 304 that I was whittling away at before... although I'd probably be happier buying some bar stock. Either way, I think It may be the...

    Stainless

I don't mean to hijack your thread, Keith... ...but I was wondering if you guys HT your 400 series ss. A few months ago I had a bar of what was supposed to be 416, and you could scratch the bolsters I made from it by looking at it cockeyed. I've used 416 in the past without issue and I never...

Yesterday, I got a very cool knife from Kyle Gahagan! It's definitely a lot different from anything I've got in my small collection. Really nice leather too. Thanks, Kyle! And thank you to Sean for organizing this years KITH! You can count me in again for next July. And Josh, thanks for...

Thank you for the Kind words Brad, I'm glad it will get some use! Illinois has some goofy knife laws, so it's hard to guess what will work and where for a KITH. It's nice to hear this worked out for carry purposes.

I was confused as well... Thanks to a PM from Brad, I think I have it straightened out. Brad gets my knife, and I send my info to Kyle Gahagan. I had it backwards.

Very Nice Josh! I love cocobolo for the exact reasons you stated... It finishes nicer than any wood I can think of, and once you expose the grain, it can really pop!

    Craftman 10" bandsaw? maybe?

I have one (not sure it's EXACTLY the same) and I use it all the time. Good blades are a must, and you can find resaw blades for it too if you shop around. I think I got mine new about 4 years ago, and have had no problems with it.

Franklin, are you using an awl for your holes? I've been using a sharpened finish nail and using it in my little drill press like an arbor press. It works well when I keep everything lined up... If I'm not paying attention and tilt the sheath a little, it will veer in our out. I either need...

Thanks Franklin! The sheath looks ok on the front, but the back is a little sloppy... have a hard time getting the holes straight sometimes. Hopefully it's new owner won't mind too much :o

Hunter Utility Here's what I came up with... Hunter Utility in CPM D2 with desert ironwood scales and 416 bolsters. Overall length is about 8 3/8", cutting edge is about 3 1/2" I don't know why the edge looks all jagged by the plunge in the first picture, it really...
