Drop Point Hunter Damascus & Black Walnut
Hi all. Another order bites the dust. I can check this one off as done other than sharpening it. This is a 9" overall drop point hunter with full flat grind. The damascus was made by me and is 300+ layers of 1084/1075/15n20 random with a diagonal latter...
Builds up on my Claiborne press dies also. I keep a big file on the shelf and hit it as it builds up while forging. Every so often I use an angle grinder with flap disk to clean them up.
Just busting your balls Fred. It does look like a very handy setup for sure. Would also be handy for smaller shops that were strapped for space. Rob Frink has his KMG mounted on a table with casters so it is mobile around his shop.
I sand down to 600 grit and etch in Ferric. I will usually do 5-10 minute soaks in the Ferric hitting it with 0000 steel wool between soaks until I get the depth of etch that I am looking for. -Burton
Thanks Michael I am sure you will do great with it. Fred, Wayne is requesting a forged damascus knife next time so get the billet together and lets do it:) I need to get back down there in the near future anyhow. -Burton
Good giveaway Fred. Thanks for all the nice words about my work everyone I really appreciate it. Hey Fred what were the final dimensions on the blade. That had to be an 8" blade I think. Regards -Burton.
