    The pup wondering again

I can feel your pain John. Wall-e, John initially gave you a huge head start into your knifemaking hobby with his advice and materials to succeed. If you find no value in his help, look at his knives and then yours...you can only come to one conclusion. Do the man justice and use whats been...

I am shooting high for an idea

Steve's right. The one longer peice lasted through the second re-stack before it burnt off. It also helps to keep part of the handle piece on the anvil when whacking it. If you don't, the handle tends to rock back and forth till it breaks off. Rudy

Post Week 1 (Dec 1 -7) Knife Photo Contest Pictures here

Just found this. Here's one I shot outside with my busted Fuji S1000. Set on auto mode and natural light with the queen moving around next to me to block light and me crouching over the knife to also block light. I know...not very scientific. What the heck are my neighbors always staring at...

OK, I'll play but not too hopeful. This has to be THE only good picture I think I've taken of a knife. And not too sure how I did it. Rudy

A good camera? How much to spend?

The current one isn't good enough anymore.....it's broken.:12: I'll muddle through with it until it totally dies. I don't think I'll waste my money on another one. It won't really handicap me, luckily I hand over my knives to a dealer who gets around more than I do. Rudy

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

Ebbtide, Nice picture and it looks like you get it done without all the frills. As I've found out, these cameras eat batteries real quick. I'm also working with the handicap of opening and closing the battery cover since the camera won't shut off by itself anymore. Thanks for the explanation, I...

A good camera? How much to spend?

Owner Beware !!!!!! And everyone else your wife decides to lend it to. Here's how my new purchase went after everyone telling me how I absolutely needed this fancy do-dad to promote my work...including the queen. The following was without my knowledge or consent. * I drop just about $400 on a...

First time filing jig grind questions

You'd have better luck starting with a mill/bas-tard file on 1/4" stock. Blend afterwards with the second cut file. Make up a seperate rod with each one. A bottle of white carpenters' chalk is handy and in a pinch, I've raided the queens' baby powder and shoe powder too. Rudy

failure, regrouping and leads to a question..

In the last 3 decades I've grown pretty sure of my process and I research the $@&%$ out of everything I don't fully understand and yet still wind up with perceptions that leave more questions. I think we're all guilty of that to some point. I'm also under the impression that a shreoidized anneal...

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

I'm listening Tracy....... But I'm not really sure if you're speaking english anymore. At least I can come back here and try and decipher one detail at a time as I progress. I'm really starting to appreciate handing my knives off to someone else to sell for me. I'm going to try those new lights...

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

I'd settle to get even close to everyones pics. I never really cared about photography and probably still don't but in the last couple years it seems really important to everyone else but me for some reason. I was talked into buying a fancy camera and still don't understand anything but the...

    From grinder to buffer

Regardless of the steels, you should probably round out your belt selection to work to your advantage. I've never used or owned a 1x30 but I do have a 1x42 that has belt selections from 36 grit to 600 readily available. I'm willing to bet that if you filled in the gap between 220 and 400 with a...

Need some help locating parts for a project I have going

You're welcome C. When I said I hadn't seen drill stops in years I should have added that I really never looked for them after the advent of modern tools. I remember in 1973 getting my first store bought Craftsman complete tool set and wondering what the heck those rings were for. lol. Tape was...
