People who blatantly and fraudulently sell knives as hand made when they are blanks..

I have been talking to a chap who wants me to teach him to make knives. We spoke and I asked him to show me the pattern he wanted to use. (I'd told him I can help with theoretical knife making and nothing more.) He said not to worry because he has been finishing blanks for years. The point is...

Starting to see a lot of "talon holes"...

How can you trademark a hole? If I want a knife with a forward lanyard hole then surely I can make one because its public domain is it not?

A non-matching pair of knives WIP.

The picture situation isn't going well but it's just sandin at the moment. I sent the first blade to Mick Wardell for HT so I get to start the new handle and mark the blade and all the exciting stuff like that. I will need to clean up the blade, shape and attach the handle, then finish the...

    durable black finish ?

I'm not sure what you mean by the colors. I'm assuming you are referring to the DPMs in my profile picture. I'm an air cadet at the moment. Ground pounder sounds to me like jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft which isn't up my street.

Help Me Choose A New Makers Mark Please!

I reckon D but with the font from B myself. Purely because I think thinner looks better.

    Brandon Miller Knife Maker Extraordinaire!!!

I prefer the grind in 6 as well but it looks like the top of the plunge us different at each side. It looks like belt tracking to me. Something I learned is to flatten your scales and liners because they are never flat when you buy them. Other than that your knives look good. Better than mine at...

    Some thoughts from Australia

I got home about a week ago and forgot to say but I have a second cousin who wants a knife in Fremantle now. Turns out I'm moving straight after school. My exam results came back and I'm not getting into uni so it off to Australia. I just need a driving license and £1000.

A non-matching pair of knives WIP.

Chris Grants website crashed my iPod but I'll try to find him. I finished grinding the skinner and the other blade is ready for HT. I have aquired enough sandpaper to go up to 320 long. on the blade, I'm halfway through 180 latt. it will take a while but I'm trying to finish this knife for next...

    Hello from Quebec city

This is a great forum where you learn a whole bunch. Do stick around. Also, is it kwe-bec or cue-bec? I have only seen the word written

Steel and blade material that doesn't need hardening?

I don't know if its useful information but I believe that talonite and stellite have very high elasticity which means the edge wil roll over when cutting hard materials if ground too thin.

    durable black finish ?

You could hot blue it in sodium nitrate I think it is, could be hydroxide. It will act as a tempering cycle I believe though. I would stay away from coatings as well, they attract dirt and what not. It's the same as painting a ladder.

Do I need to heat treat a weddig cake knife?

Overkill is underrated. Being 17 I am not married but it is my understanding that the cake knife is kept. Now when I look forward and see my wife and I in our house with little offspring running around I would want to be able to tell people that the cake knife is real and useable. It makes for a...

    Just Finished 07/23/13

That is a cool knife, it looks retro (is that the correct word?) I almost aquired a sweater that would match it perfectly. It looks like something my grandfather would like. A lot of his stuff seems to be those colors. I love the shape of the handle, it looks like a good shape for my hand...

    Some thoughts from Australia

Scotland has adders which are a type of viper, they can kill you but I have only ever seen one in my life. They can kill you, deer and lynx could probably kill you and that's about it. Here, everything kills you.

    Some thoughts from Australia

I bought a piece of black heart sassafras today, it's enough for one handle but it's one of the best looking woods I have ever seen. It's all going well but I don't like the fact that we have found four white tailed spiders, one of which escaped into the room I sleep in. I don't mind spiders but...

My Donation for the American Valor Benefit Raffle...

That is a knife that I would buy. I haven't seen very many that I like enough to say that. It just works. If I ever have money to spend on handmade knives I will have to buy one from you.

    Some thoughts from Australia

We cut up all the wood. Looking at the inside of the burl we decided it was jarrah which has an "h" apparently. I managed to get 12 blocks from it. I could get more but the rest of the burl is not worth ruining for a few blocks. I think I got 36 all in. http://imageshack.us/a/img28/8431/xvhh.jpg...

    Some thoughts from Australia

I don't think I'm getting anything fancy but lots of the woods I have already look great. Hopefully I will chop up the burl today and get a look at the inside of it. It will definitely need stabilisation. I have lots of Tasmanian oak back in Scotland already as well, my grandparents house is...

    Some thoughts from Australia

The eucalyptus is supposed to be very useable, I will stabilise it anyway. I now have some red-gum and some she-oak on top of the fiddleback and I may get some Blackwood too. What do we think of huon pine? Is it any good, I know some softwoods are pretty hard and stabilising is an option. I want...
