I don't know of any clubs either. But I'm a fairly new member here myself. And I'm not actually as much of a "maker" as a restorer. I'm mostly a gun collector with interest in military guns/related weapons. Which I made a hobby of acquired in poor condition and refurbishing for winter projects...

    Epoxy question

Well my glue up is done. To be honest, not quite sure if I did it right or of results quality. I used Devcon 30 minute epoxy because I had some I bought before I learned about the G-flex. Placed antler in padded vise, hole up. Heated the Devcon in a pan of water on stove, just shy of boiling...

Anyone ever use concho's on a sheath?

Thanks for the input and link. I already bought & used a Tandy concho, but I like the Buffalo brothers line better. Will certainly be using theirs in the future.

Anyone ever use concho's on a sheath?

I'm making a sheath for a stag handle bowie I'm completing. And I'm considering putting a concho on the pouch. Obviously it has to be put in place before final sew up. But I'm wondering if metal rivet or screw inside the pouch may snag or otherwise effect the blade. I would think a riveted type...

    Hand finishing Antler handle

So, I'm using what might be a bit of a different finishing aspect. I have a kitchen table gunsmithing background. For years I bought and repaired/restored old, usually broken guns as a hobby. I actually only got into knives when even old broken guns got too expensive to buy. Not to mention parts...

    Hand finishing Antler handle

Still needs final sanding, finish and glue up. Couldn't find epoxy I need locally, so had to order some. Waiting for it and letting antler get good and dry before proceeding.

    Hand finishing Antler handle

Well, after some dry time, it actually looks pretty good. Seems like it got darker as it dried.

Source foe cow bone for hidden tang knife handle.

That may work even better than showing them my Japanese Arisaka collection. And explaining all the variations & differences in what looks to them like identical rifles.

    Mk1

Pretty much the nature of the beast on these old knives. The leather handle washers have likely shrunk some. You might try rubbing in some mink oil or some other leather moisturizer to try to swell them back. But I would expect limited results. The pommel is pinned (you can see the pin). The...

    Epoxy question

I'm making a hidden tang antler handle knife in which the tang will be epoxied inside the antler handle. My tang goes 3/4 into the handle 3/4 the length of the handle. I saw a pictorial online where the knife maker (making a hidden epoxied tang knife) recommended using slow setting "3 hr epoxy"...

    do people fake knives

Also in the case of Camillus (and possibly Ka Bar) USMC MK-2 knives, they were made for both civilian and the govt. for decades past WW-2. So not all are WW-2 vintage. Utica knife company had a contract during WW-2 to make bayonets and the M3 knife. After the war they still had lots of surplus...
