    Sheath making

Nope, I'm free handing it. I think it's the lighter pressure and feel that keeps the hole from wandering as bad.

    Sheath making

IF I was buying a machine, it would be the Cowboy Outlaw. But, I have finally settled on a method that works for me. Once I have the it all put together and the welt sanded and all squared up, I run a fairly shallow stitch groove and mark with an over stitch wheel. I then use a dremel with a...

What's going on in your shop?

I ground a big notch in the back of my thumb today, between the first knuckle and my wrist. I started to grind and realized my water bucket wasn't in place so I grabbed it and stuck it under there. Straight into the edge of a 50 grit belt. It sucked. 10 hours later it still sucks.

Yeah, that would be one way to go. A take off motor and a couple hardware store sheaves would be another, if you wanted a lower investment to get going.

You should look at Coote grinders. This is a much better grinder set up than any 1X. You can use something like this forever.

I have a 7" drive wheel on my grinder. 2HP 1740rpm on KBAC 27D set on double. So speed is: 50%/60Hz = 3187 sfpm 100%/120Hz = 6374 sfpm I typically run at 70% (~4500 sfpm) to rough grind at 50 grit, and drop to about 50% when I step up to 120 grit. Everything else is under 40%.

    Brazed composite steel blades

I suspect the Kershaw blade material is more of an industrial process.

    Brazed composite steel blades

There is a knife company or two that does carbide or similar edges that are soldered on. I reckon it does work.

Yup. You need a 2" x 72" grinder and a metal cutting bandsaw.

When do you consider yourself a knifemaker?

I quit shaving my arm hairs. I woke up in the middle of the night not too long ago and thought I had been put in a straight jacket. But it was just the long fuzzy hairs on my dominant arm velcroed to the short prickly hairs on my testing arm.

    What Causes This Discolorization?

Last HRPA 80CrV2 I got from there was quite barky. Not an issue if you know it's there to grind out, but I do cold rolled if I got the option.

    What Causes This Discolorization?

When you have clean, hard steel you should get an even dark black color. You coated it to prevent decarb, so I wouldn't suspect you had much to deal with, apart what was there from milling. It usually isn't much. But if it was me I'd go at it with a good 120 belt until I got .005"-.007" off of...
