Danger Will Robinson! Danger! The importance of good air and PPE in your shop

I have a small enclosed shop and have a similar dust problem. I hooked up a duct fan that blows directly outside through a one-way vent. I was also concerned about the fire hazards of the dust collection systems. It works pretty well, I can feel the breeze coming through my shop door so I know...

    Ferric Formula

Ok gotcha, thanks! So the black coloring can result from the ferric alone and isn't in addition to a coffee etch?

    Ferric Formula

Resurrecting this thread. @Randy Lucius, if you don't mind, what is your process for ferric chloride and then the coffee etch? I saw the ratios but was wondering about how many times in the ferric? Sanding? how strong is the coffee? thanks!

    Stencils ?

I got my stencils from Ernie a few years back. No problems, fast reponse. I've been trying to email his son both directly and through his website and have gotten no response. If someone can't respond even briefly, then my business goes elsewhere.

Stainless Bolsters - Glue or No Glue Before Peening?

I put epoxy under my bolsters mainly to be sure there is a seal under there to keep "crud" out. Not a ton of epoxy stays under there after peening and pressing (I press my bolsters on with a bottle jack press). I've had that space you're seeing happen. I've fixed it by filing perpendicular to...

    2021 KITH Jones/Kingery

That's a good idea, the "tightness" of the belt will help hold the knife in the sheath. Sean, for your bolster issues. I do a lot of bolsters, too many.... Anyhow, I generally get either the left or right side cut and rough shaped. Then I do the other side to match. Once they are both close I...

    Im new here

Welcome! This isn't really a group that meets, these are just forums where people post questions, pics of the knives they are making, etc. There are some sub-forums here that have local knifemaking groups. You'd have to check and see if any are in your area.

    Looking for fireman's mosaic pin

No issues with Alexey. Lot's of people in the usa order from him. Some things to remember: 1) The pins are in metric. Keep that in mind when ordering in case you already have a hardened blank with holes pre-drilled. 2) Consider your design and the size of the pin. complex designs don't look as...

I have several of Alexey's pins and they are well done. He's about the only "outside the country" pin maker I'd trust. There have been several others that scammed people

    Wet molding.

It does yes, but it loosens up over time and it's good to be too tight for now.

    Wet molding.

I've wet molded pre-made sheaths before and it seemed to work out ok. I had to soak them longer and flex them around some. The best thing I've found to do is after they are wetted down, wrap the knife in Saran Wrap, put it in the sheath and then use a vacuum sealer (like you use for vacuum...
