    The Laser Thread

I don't have an air assist either and so far I haven't needed it. The 20 watt laser obviously increases your power and will let you do other projects where you need more power. Cutting cool designs out of wood and then assembling them into various designs is a pretty popular (and potentially...

    The Laser Thread

Get Lightburn, it makes doing the projects easier. I tried LaserGRBL first and it's too basic. You'll eventually want to use the laser for other types of projects.

    Wood Identity

I'd agree that it's Wenge for both. The zig-zag patterns of the black "lines" on the base and the second pic of the football are pretty clear and would seem to match Wenge.

    Pakistani Video

The Sportsmen's Expo in Sacramento has a table or two of those types of knives as well. People all around them ooo'ing and ahhh'ing at the damascus. My son and I just look and laugh. It would be fun to take a good blade and shave steel off of one of theirs right in front of everybody!

What's going on in your shop?

I spoke with Paul Farner (Bos Heat Treat/Buck Knives) and he will do a Hamon. You just have to send it to him with the Clay/Satanite on the blade in the pattern you want. I've been thinking about it when I send him my next batch. You'd have to wrap the blade very carefully I'd imagine?

    How Many Knives at Once...

I usually have batches of 10 or so "underway". They are same blade shape, bolsters, accents, and handle material. I try to keep them at the same "stage" and move them through the rest of the process. I have a deadline for when these generally need to be finished so I know how I'm doing. Then I...

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

I haven't had any issues with my machine. I haven't had a ton of time to use it other than maker's marks. I have tested some burning into wood and I'm about to do some leather with it. For those you're gonna want some ventilation. Many build boxes for the lasers with an exhaust tube and fan to...

    Bolsters

I wouldn't bother. Stainless bolsters are already pretty stain/rust resistant and as you will find out when sanding/shaping are fairly "hardened" already.
