Alignment matters less than if the wheel is not crowned. I just crowned this wheel today, and I lined everything up with a tape measure... It's not a true crown either, I cut 5* on each side on my lathe. So, I have a 170* ^

It's not really in the middle of the room like that. Those pics were before it was installed. It's up against a wall now. I forgot to mention, I crown all the drive wheels too. You get better tracking with 2 crowned wheels than with one.

Traction. Rubber drive wheels are FAR superior to metal. I use them on every grinder I have, and I currently have Six 72" belts slung in the grinding room... I hate when belts slip.

I changed the tracking around a few days ago, and have been busy using this beast, and man, do I love it!

    1/4" Reamer..Drill bit size?

Depends on what material you are reaming, and how you prepared the hole. I often use a 6.1 or 6.2 mm drill.

Thinking of buying the TG92 disc grinder from Tru grit

Wow, Robs is nice looking. If everything stays square while taking the table off to switch abrasives that could be a champ. I have one from Tru-Grit, and it's a bit of a pain to remove the table to swap abrasives, AND you lose your angle entirely when doing so. Since I only use a disk to grind...

So far, the pneumatics are GREAT! Time will tell though. Fortunately, I was thinking while designing, and all I need to to is flip one bracket, and I can use a standard gas spring. About $100 less that way too. I have found a couple of quirks I need to address, like that I don't like the...

Adjustable to any angle, and up and down to allow use of the whole belt. I'll take better pics of the new Überest that I just finished this morning, soon. Adjustable, and locking in 1* increments up to 90*, AND dedicated positions from 8* to 10.25* in 1/4* increments for grinding lock faces.

I have no desire to be a grinder seller. I like making them, but don't have the time to market, sell, and ship these. People take up way too much of my time when buying things like this. The drive wheel does not have bearings, it is attached directly to the motor. Bought it from Beaumont.

Is it a vertical grinder? A horizontal grinder? Pneumatically sprung with variable tension? 3hp? Yes, yes it is. I have had this one on the drawing boards for a couple of years now. Finally decided to go for it. It rotates from vertical to horizontal by pulling 1 spring detent pin, and...

    Bob Warner etcher question

EX-9B or EX-D20 from TUS Technologies works well on all knife steels I have tried. Carbon and stainless. FWIW, 16v seems to be the optimal voltage. 16v transformers also are conveniently found for about $12 at any hardware store. Doorbell transformers....

    Bob Warner etcher question

All you need is a DPDT switch. 12v feeds one side of the switch, 25v feeds the other side. The middle legs then go on to whatever they were doing before. However, there is no need for 25v. It's too much.

Anyone else having problems with Norton Blaze...

You get 15 minutes on a belt? Wow. Heat cooks the stuff out of some belts. I have this issue too from time to time.

AC = Darken DC = Remove metal.

Good job Chuck. All that work, and you only run a 1X42? Any particular reason?
