Orders for the year are done! Now I get to work on a project for me . I’ve been wanting to do another frame handle Bowie since I finished the first one earlier this year.

This one was a customer request. A modified Green River style butcher knife with a Hawaiian theme. It will be a gift to a Pineapple plantation.

I'm curious, does anyone make their own dry ice with CO2? We recently needed to make some at work for freeze plugs to do a repair. I didn't know if it was cost effective to have your own tank and set up.

I use a Dust Deputy hooked up to my shop vac and a box fan with a filter next to my grinder to catch some of the finer stuff. It it works well enough but would probably work better if I could build some kind of containment around the grinder also.

Finished up blocking out some handles. On to hand sanding.

My understanding so far is it can impact the "activity" of the hamon. The wispy lines, sometimes whiteish at the edges vs. a more distinct delineated line. Of course, clay thickness isn't the only thing that can have an impact. That's what makes them so challenging.

I've picked up some W2 and 1095 that I intend to chase some hamons with. There's some very inspiring work online that I've been checking out. Look up Jan Hafinec knives (@janhafinecknives on IG) or Jarred Ball (@jball_knives on IG). They look to have spent a lot of time perfecting their techniques.

Beautiful piece John. Is the blade San Mai, or just partially etched? Very cool effect.

I'm going to have to bow out for this one. We recently got our layoff notices (plant closes 12/31) and I probably should be looking for a new gig by then ;)
