    Why so Many Hidden Tangs

I heard a "fairly-well-known" collector say once that he would never buy a 3-piece knife. (He was referring to a blade and two handle slabs) He went on and on about ABS style knives (which, we must agree, are largely hidden tang style). About 5 minutes later, he started raving about how well...

    Why so Many Hidden Tangs

Could very well be (and most likely is) a heat treat issue. Robert

New... but not for the love of blades.

    Welcome to the addiction. Robert

"My very first knife" - post up!

Rex, you should see some of Tom's knives. He is as old as dirt, and almost as ugly as I am, but he can grind like most folks only dream of. Robert

    Colorful Trio for Christmas

Sounds like you have your heat treat down pretty doggone well. Show us the knives with the Sheep Horn when you finish them. Robert

    Colorful Trio for Christmas

They look a little "Ed Fowler-ish" minus the sheep horn. That is surely not a bad thing at all. 1095 is an excellent choice if it is heat treated right. Just plain hard to beat. Great looking work........ Show us more. Robert

You guys that make knives full time..What did you do in a previous profession?

Retired from a Community College after 32+ years in Technical Education. Taught Collision Repair for the first 22-or-so years, then spent the last 10-or-so as Assistant Dean (Hated that part, but it paid good). Started getting serious about knife making about 3 years before I retired. Been at...

    Green and Damascus

Thanks guys. This one has a new home. Traded even-steven for a heavy duty custom built barbeque grill (yet to be built). Welding friend of mine makes them, and depending on the size, they sell for anywhere between$400 and $1000.

    A visit to Alabama Damascus

These are a few more misc. shots that might be of some interests. Preparing to replace a motor drive gear on one of the other hammers. A general view of the shop. A two wheeled hollow grinder that works pretty neat. Three tired old objects (two hammers and me)

    A visit to Alabama Damascus

Yesterday, I spent the day at Alabama Damascus in Jacksonville, Alabama with Brad Vice and Lacy Smith. Here are a few pics. This place is power-hammer heaven. Nice little forge heating up the billets. The next few are of the welding, cutting (for folding) and stretching the...

    Congratulations Robert Dark

Well doggone gang. I sure appreciate those kind comments. Without the freely shared information and encouragement on these forums, I would still be ten years behind the learning curve. I thank each and every one of you for your help along the way. Robert

    My first J.S knife

Billy, You got your JS because you make knives like that. Absolutely gorgeous. Take this as "constructive" criticism ...... Make your sheaths flow as well as your knives. A great looking sheath adds much to the total package. Robert
