    Wood bleach

Ernie, In my limited experience, you need to remove that oxalic acid that you used to clean the leather. You can rinse thoroughly if you have the time for the sheath to dry. Remember, it says its an "acid", and acids don't work well with carbon steels. You will be pleasantly surprised...

    Wood bleach

I use the wood bleach that I get from Lowe's or Home Depot. As stated above, 3/4 to 1 spoonful in about a quart of water. Use sparingly......This stuff is like "Brylcream"......... "A little dab will do ya". Just lightly go over your leather using a sponge or similar. It will clean those...

    So.......How do I do this

Look at the above edit of your post. Longer etches than you think will make a difference. You will start seeing some crazy happenings with longer etches and polishes. This helps me a bunch in my feeble attempts. Hope it works out for you. Robert

    Crazy Looking 1095

Cal, The blade was etched in Ferric Chloride and sanded with 1000 and 1500 grit paper MANY times. Then it was etched and polished with MAAS polishing cream 4 or 5 more times. MAAS is similar to Simichrome or Flitz polish. I get it locally at the ACE hardware store. Robert

    1095 Camper

Might call it a camper or some might call it a "Poor Man's Fighter". This was clay coated, BUT with an interrupted quench. As a result, you can see some of the clay goings-on, but the interrupted quench moved the hardening line right on down south. Matters not to me, as the blade is as hard...

What dogs teach us...worth your time to view

Boss, If folks would just take a little time each day to stop and smell the roses, life would be so, so much better. I have 4 dogs (extended-children), two Boxers and two Shih-Tzus. There is not a day that goes by that I don't smile at their antics and "No-Strings-Attached" love. They...

    1095 warping

Scott, 1095 can be frustrating. Earlier this week, I had a blade about 11" long that was as straight as a string. When I put her into the forge for the first normalizing heat, she made a hard left turn. I suspect it was stresses caused by uneven grinding. Once I straightened it out, it...

I live just off of Interstate 20 that runs between Birmingham, AL (about 1 hour to the west), and Atlanta, GA (about 1 1/2 hours to the east). Oxford, AL is about 17 miles from the highest point in Alabama. Mount Cheaha is 2407 feet above sea level, and has a great State Park located at the...

    Strangler Danglers

Let us go back a few years.......... Back in the 70's, it seemed like everyone had a gold chain around their neck (in order to look their best in their bell-bottomed, polyester "Leisure" suits, or was that "Seizure" suits). I always felt like I was going to choke any minute, and besides that...

    Strangler Danglers

Thanks my man. I am always inspired after the Blade Show (even if I did have to rest up a day or so). Now I will be back to the regular "Turtle" pace like always. By the way, my wife asked if someone had been chewing on my socks.:D I told her that they had a rough night in fighting the...
