    Stabilizing?

I have read alot of descriptions of handle material that is "stabilized" and was wondering what that referred to. I gather from context clues and some of the posts I've read that there is a process involving the application of adhesives and pressure. How is this done, and to what end? Is it...

    Stacked Leather Handle

How do you make the steel ends of the handle? Is that something that requires special tools or is there a simple way to do it and attach it to the tang?

    Stainless Damascus and sambar stag

I love the forward curve it has. It makes it one mean cutting tool. Just out of curiosity, how hard is it to work with stainless damascus?

    serrations?

Cool, I have one old survival knife I've used for years to clean deer with and it has a sawblade type serration on the spine of the blade. I've always found it very useful for cutting up game in the field, so i was thinking something along those lines. I guess maybe serrations is not the...

    serrations?

I am working on a knife right now and I am toying with the idea of putting serrations on the top of the blade. Any pros or cons people know of? Also, is there any preferred method of doing it?

    5160 8" Combat Knife

Cool, I love the sheath especially. That should give the blade a nice ring as it leaves the sheath which is just sweet to hear.

    Brainstorm anyone?

I just started work on a knife but I find myslef unemployed and in a financial bind so I can't afford to buy any more materials. Anyone know a cheap handle material (and by cheap I mean as close to free as possible)? If I have to I'll just wait until I can purchase something, I really don't...

    Started my first hawk

I started pounding out a ball peen hawk for the first time yesterday and I think I've learned quite a bit. First off, my improvised forge needs an upgrade. Second, I need a bigger anvil. And Third, now I know why blacksmiths were always so ripped. That's one heck of a workout! I only got...

    putting in pins?

My shipment of steel is supposed to arrive on monday (YAAAAY) so i was wondering if I could get some advice on puting the pins in the handle. I'm pretty sure that the way I did it last time, (drilling out holes a little larger than the pins and striking them with a hammer, then grinding down)...

Finally get to post in here!

That looks supremely functional. If it is meant to be used you might consider reversing the stitching though. I don't have much experience yet, but it seems like a missed swing could snap your stitching. Still, very nice. I always liked throwing hawks.

    curly and sharp

I can see that one hanging from the belt of a mountain man. Nice rustic look to the blade.

    Making a mark?

I've noticed everyone's knives have thier maker's mark on them and I was wondering the methods for going about this. Some of them appear to be etched while others seem stamped. I have stamping tools for leather but it seems like strking hot metal might damage them, and a drummel tool seems to...

So what did we just learn aboout 1080

I have only done this once and per the instructions of you tube (this was before i discovered knife dogs) I used motor oil after allowing the blade to cool a few times at room temp. I had to pound it hard with a ball peen to get a large crack out of one side where it looked like it had been...
