    Slight injury, but a reminder

That is exactly why I recommend that the wheels and belt be located over open space. Then when (not if) a belt breaks it scoots across the floor behind the grinder and not running across the table, hitting the wall and coming back at you.

    New Forge

You would be better off without the kiln shelf, rather cast it with Kast-0-Lite, use Kast-0-Lite instead of Satanite and Metrikote at $20.00 per pint rather than over $75.00 for a pint of ITC-100. Let me know if I can help you.

    VFD enclosure.

When I started building grinders and using VFDs I looked into using cheaper VFDs and building enclosures. By the time it was all said and done not only was the end result better using the KBAC VFDs it was more economical too after you considered the cost of the products and time involved. My...

    Ribbon Burner Forge

That Is the most complicated way that I have seen to set up a Ribbon Burner forge. But it is one way to do it and it is not "wrong". 1st there should be a ball valve just before the needle valve for fast on/off 2nd all connections can easily be made with npt parts readily available at any...

    New Forge

Check out the Build a Gas Forge attachment at the Forge Supplies page of my web-site. The shape of the tank ends help protect the ceramic blanket and just makes a better looking end result. Rather than the angle irons use common door hinges then if you need to re-line it you can just knock out...

    Forge

Bruce it is the 3000 degree stuff. I think that you will be pleased with it. It is tough, light weight and insolating. You will find that it takes less time for your forge to come to temp. Also consider using Metrikote rather than the ITC-100. It is much cheaper and according to Mike Porter...

    Forge

Bill, the Kast-0-Lite is a better product than Satanite and Mike reports that Metrikote is better (and cheaper) than ITC-100. I just re-read my post and must apologize for not checking to make sure that it made sense. Let me know if I can help you.

    Forge

Kast-0-Lite 3000 is a good light weight, insolating castable refractory that is resistant to flux. If you are getting flux build up in the floor of your forge you are using to much flux. ITC-100 is terribly expensive and a better product, according to Mike Porter, and is much cheaper. I sell...

    t-rex plumbing question

That is a drawing from the picture of the Dragon Forge in Tennessee of my forge on the Customer Comments page. The needle valve is for an idler circuit, so that you can turn down the gas consumption when not needing full heat. I did not find this useful. I would forget to go to it while the...

    Idea's for scrap steel!

Well, since you are making them for Christmas gifts, my address is below. It appears that with the new software we have lost the laughing dog ;) BTW, there is no such thing as scrap steel to a blacksmith. You can take 3 bottle caps, flatten them, except for the ripples, cut some slots with...
