    Motor information please

check out the DVD on the Grinders Page at www.WayneCoeArtistBlacksmith.com. There is also a video there that you can watch. I strongly suggest that you get a 1.5 or 2 hp 3 phase motor and an appropriate VFD. If you go with a single phase motor and step pulleys you will soon determine that you...

Finally going to delve into a big boy grinder

Most all single phase motors can be wired for either 115v or 230v. 3 phase motors can be wired to run on 230v or 460v. You will have to have a 3 phase motor to run with a VFD. The type VFDs that we use takes the single phase power and converts it to 3 phase 230v. Most of the VFDs that we use...

Finally going to delve into a big boy grinder

The motors that I sell have both the C face mount and the foot so that they can be mounted either way. I mount the motor using the foot just as John describes, directly to the table or base. I use a carpenter's square with one leg running along the side of the frame and the other along the...

Finally going to delve into a big boy grinder

Check out the VFDs on my web site. The KB grinders are the easiest to set up and are rock solid. You definitely want to get a NEMA 4X enclosure. These are not the cheapest VFDs out there but they will last well. Always unplug any electronic equipment when not using it. Anything with a board...

1 1/2 hp Baldor is this a deal?

Don't try to make something work that does not fit the application, however, a non TEFC motor for $50.00 would work for a while. Check out my web site and see if I can help you.

    Running grinder in reverse problem

I have found that belt grinders don't track well when run in reverse. I believe that the issue is that when the tracking wheel is the last wheel in the circuit it is already past the area that it should be effecting. When I tried it I could, after multiple adjustments I could get it to track...

    Grinder design / build

If the VFD is not NEMA 4X rated itself it will have to breathe. They have to suck air through them in order to cool the electronics. If you put it in a box you will have to provide a fan and filtration on the intake and outtake. I considered this when I first started building grinders and...

    Grinder design / build

If you go with the step pulleys, shaft, belt, and pillow blocks you will spend over $100.00. why not apply that to the purchase of a VFD? And if you go with the step pulley design, when you decide to convert to a variable speed design not only will those parts be an added expense, you will have...

I need a tool and might have to make it.

When I first started smithing almost every time I went to the shop to make something it seems that I had to make a tool first to be able to make what ever I had planned. After a couple of years I had a lot of tools. From time to time I still have to make a tool.

VFD switch wiring... please check my work

If a 3 phase motor is not running in the desired direction swap any two wires in the motor to the VFD, or plug, or switch. By changing your switch wiring you did the same thing but at the switch rather than at the motor. Of course the way you did it you only had to change wires in the switch...

VFD switch wiring... please check my work

Jeremy, I think that they were offering both about that time. I did the same swap out of the GFCI plug on mine. The only problem with that is that I can only run my grinder on that circuit. Let me know if I can help you.

VFD switch wiring... please check my work

All of the VFDs that I supply have the GFCI filter. I started specifying that when they came out with the fix. I think that the plug and outlets is simpler and if at sometime you want to add another piece of equipment it is also simple to do. Let me know if I can help.

VFD switch wiring... please check my work

The simplest way to run two motors off one VFD is to go to the hardware store and get two 4 prong outlets (I think that they are electric range outlets and are designed for 230v) and one 4 prong plug. Put the plug on the cord from the VFD and one outlet on each motor. Then you can plug into...

    kaowool

I sell Inswool for $9.00 per running foot 24" wide. It is just another brand of ceramic blanket. I have used both and prefer the Inswool. At the very least you need to paint over the ceramic blanket with Metrikote which is $15.00 per pint in order to contain the loose fibers. You can e-mail me...

    Kmg grinder

Go to my web-site and look at the video about my Moe's Grinder. Then look into getting the DVD where I assemble one of the grinders. There are pages that you can print out which include pictures of all of the parts with dimensions, and a complete cut list. This grinder uses standard 1.5 X .5...

Bill try the Trading Post page. http://www.alaforge.org/Trading_Post.html Clay has his plans listed there, there are several hammers listed there. Come to the Batson Blade Symposium in April to meet people there who build the hammers and to see hammers. If you want to buy a built hammer you...

    VFD on a Power Hammer?

Bill, what style power hammer are you planning to build? I doubt that a VFD would be advantageous. Go to www.alaforge.org for some information about building the Tire Hammer. They normally use a 1 hp single phase motor. This hammer is a lot like a Little Giant and needs the whipping motion to...
