    Lock Back Elk scales

Mark, Great looking knife! Laminating white G10 to the scales sounds like a good idea to me. How thick was the G10? Thanks for sharing! Bill

    Gambler's bowie...

John, Top notch as usual! I really like the sculpted and textured handle. The finish on the blade which appears darkened, not black, is very attractive also. Is this accomplished by etching? Is it fair to call it a type of satin finish? Your use of coined and grooved G10 for fittings is very...

I have just started grinding blades on smaller bird and trout type knives with a thickness of .125 and man do they get hot quick even without trying to hog metal off. I know I probably don't have the best belts so I am taking it slooooooow! Understand I'm not whining, I feel fortunate to have...

    Stick tang shoulder/guard?

Thanks for the replies guys. Ed, it didn't occur to me to use a carbide faced file guide after heat treat. At present, I do have a hardend tool steel guide but not one with carbide faces. Must put it on the wish list! I believe Mr. Bruce Bump sold these at one time and wonder if he still does...

    Stick tang shoulder/guard?

I know that the tang should be radiused at the shoulder junction to prevent stress risers from the heat treat process, but, does the guard have to have that same radius in slot to match the shoulder radius? I hope I'm making myself clear. Thanks. Bill

danish oil with stablized burlwood scales

Grizzly Bear, I'm a newbie, but it's my belief that stabilized wood does not need an oil finish, just sanding and buffing. As far as the lacquer, I personally would'nt do it because I believe it would chip. Now, I could be wrong on both issues, but some of the more experienced dogs will chime...

    Heat treating affect pin holes?

I believe if .125 diameter pins are used, one would drill .1285 (#30 drill) holes for the scales, but how does heat treat affect the diameter of the holes? Do they expand, do not expand, no change? Thanks. Bill

    epoxy

Although I am a newbie as far as Knifemaking, I've had great success with acra-glas in gunsmithing and the few scales I have assembled with it appear to be solidly attached. Bill
