    San mai and/or laminated steel

I would very much like to expand my offerings to include some San mai blades. I wish with all my heart I could make my own billets, but with 2 shoulder replacements swinging a hammer is not in the cards, and I’ve got a ways to go yet to afford, the tools that would help with that. I see on a few...

    Kimmi/Walker 2021 KITH

That’s going to be a good knife.

    Cane knife

I had a gentleman contact me about making him a knife like this. It seems pretty straightforward, but I’m curious what you’d suggest as far as metal selection? It’s use for chopping cane and various other brush. Any suggestions?

    Giraffe bone

I have a client wanting to add giraffe bone handles to some of his existing knives. He harvested a giraffe and has the femur(s). What would be the best way to go about cutting the thing up to make scales?

    Mesquite wood

Is that burl? I don’t even know if mesquite will do that? The piece I have is much straighter grained.

    Mesquite wood

Anyone ever use mesquite on a knife handle? It seems pretty hard and the piece I’ve got has some nice coloration.

    2021 KITH???

I’ll play. I will admit I like the ones where you make a certain style, ie; Bowie or fillet knife. I like the challenge. That said I’m down for whatever. I’ve never been “stiffed”, but I did build a knife once and not get to trade it. Never did make contact with that guy. I know he started it...

    What size fuller??

After trying to do a fuller a few different ways I think I’m going to go with the grinder. Next but if business is to get some wheels for that purpose. What would be the most universal/useful size(s)?

    Chopper question.

I’m needing material suggestions for a chopper I’ve been asked to build. The ask was, “something I can really get nuts and beat on, and chop things”. He wants a 13” blade. Heat treat not withstanding, my oven isn’t big enough, so I’ll be sending it out for treatment. Thanks

    Stacking AEB-L During Heat Treat

No. I just make one big bag and put them all in. That way I’m only quenching one layer in my plates.

    Stacking AEB-L During Heat Treat

I definitely do not fall in the “smarter people” category, but this works for me. I will generally do 4-6 at a time all in one foil pack, then it’s one shot out to the plates and quench. I have had issues with them crossing and so forth, to remedy that I fold up my foil flat on the table and...

First impressions on the Cowboy Outlaw Sewing Machine

I just bought an outlaw machine myself and it is an absolute game changer. The learning curve is pretty simple. Most important thing is to thread it properly, and fully cycle it every stitch. Beyond that is reall pretty simple.

    Serrated edge belts

Has anyone ever tried making their own serrated edge belts with pinking sheers or the like? The thought occurred to me the other day. I could always buy them, but that’s never stopped me before! That said I really do like that serrated edge for some operations in handles and such.

Is this walnut good for handles

I use cut offs from gun stock making all the time, and it turns out beautiful.

    My latest

A couple of new things for me. Finally got an etching device m, so I started marking my blades. The picture doesn’t show it, but it’s got orange G10 liners, also a first, but only by the request of my 5 year old. But in truth it actually turned out pretty nice.

    Milling the Primary Angle?

I supposed I could have phrased that differently. Most mistakes in knife making have already been made by someone else.

    Milling the Primary Angle?

Yep. I spent 20 years in a machine shop, and it took me a while to realize that most of the mistakes in knife making had already been made, I just had to listen.

    Milling the Primary Angle?

I tried that method when I was starting out, and honestly it’s not worth the time or the money to do it that way. For the price of tooling you can buy gobbs of steel and belts to practice with. I got 90% of my tooling for free and it still wasn’t worth it.
