    2X72 water mister

Ya'll gonna really like a mister - but the footswitch is really needed. It cuts down on amount of water and air used. Even a small air compressor can keep up using the foot switch, and much less water wetting the area down.

    CarTech Micro-Melt CD#1 Alloy

Thanks for those links - while the CD#1 is most likely a good steel, it's a tad more pricey than I'm comfortable with. I had never looked at that "WW" tab - Just what is that "Cross Grain"? Sure would be nice if there was a tad more info on what makes the "blemish" - BUT - from what I've seen...

    meteorite knife

There is a LOT of meteorite in that blade - sure does look good. Considering the cost of meteorite these days just the meteorite is expensive! Nice. Thank you again for posting the WIP photos.

    meteorite knife

Sorry I missed your post until tonight - I see you posted yesterday. Thank you so much for the photos and write up. YES!!! I think more than myself are interested in how you did it. Let me understand, in the #6 photo you're showing the canister with the bar of 5160 in the middle, and...

DIY Surface Grinder for AmeriBrade WIP

Hey that's neat. I'd never noticed that box for a short url link. Works great, and easier than my way of removing part of the url. Thanks for that. Seeing these good parts makes me want to build another SGA, but the one I've got works so good not much excuse to build another.... except for...

DIY Surface Grinder for AmeriBrade WIP

    Amazon share button? You must be on a phone or something? I only use a computer so I've got a KB and mouse. I'm old fashioned - that's how we did it back in prehistoric times {g}

    New Forge

$29? Wow, if they'll go on sale here for that I'll get another. A 3D printer reducer for the fan? I remember seeing that done - good idea, but the fan will need some support I'd think. A plastic printed object isn't all that strong. I mounted my forge on this HF cart...

DIY Surface Grinder for AmeriBrade WIP

Taz, Thanks for the links. The inner rail is pretty much the one I used, except way back when I build my SGA several yrs ago the 4 bearing was the one to use. Now I'd use the 5 bearing for sure. I've tagged the sliding table for later. Good design and decent price. Tell me about those links...

    New Forge

Your forge is looking good. I'm for sure following along with the build to see the final product with the Ribbon burner going. I use those HF tool stands a good bit - I've got maybe 5 or 6 of them around. The last one I purchased last week was the longer stand for $33 rather than the one with...

Good job - and I still would like to know more about that sliding table you've got.

    meteorite knife

Very nice - good work, GREAT craftsmanship. I'd like to know more about forging the blade - how much meteorite, how forged, etc. Is the meteorite from one of the named sources like campo del cielo meteorite? I'm amazed and fascinated with forging meteorite into blades.

    saw steel

Coop, I'm with you. In my early days I used "mystery" steel with good success.... except when it wasn't. In this case the OP has a couple tons of what should be the same "new" steel. That's why I thought it might be worthwhile to have it tested to see exactly what steel it is.

Fit and Finish: Glue lines proud over time.

I would say the wood moved - not unusual at all. I've had that to happen many times, a yr or so later the wood/tang or wood/spacer joints wouldn't be as smooth as when built. I can't imagine G-Flex epoxy moving like that.

    saw steel

With almost 2 tons of steel it might be worthwhile to have it tested to see the composition. I've heard it's not that expensive, but I wouldn't have a clue where to send or cost. I understand you've got the HT down pat, but sometimes it might be nice to know? Congrats on the steel.

    Grizzly 2X42

There has been a lot of discussion about Grizzly's 2X42 grinder and I almost ordered one. Today I saw this video that got me all excited again, then saw Grizzly has it on sale for $300 with free shipping. I just had to order the darn thing. Good decision? Not at all sure, but we'll see. I...

    New Forge

I forgot to add on the forge - be SURE to drill a hole in the side to insert a ceramic probe to check temps. I find that really helpful. Something like this to display temps: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018QHQSB8/...

    New Forge

I was not familiar with that forge - I found his website and YT video (I'm sure you've watched it) That's a nice looking forge - you going with a ribbon burner? I've always been interested in those, but use a standard blown burner in my forge. I've had venturi burners and they work good, but...

I just received a large sawmill bandsaw blade....{ 15n20 ]....and it has a pretty good coating of surface rust...it is like 12 in wide by 40 feet long

Not many replies to your post - I guess most folks are like me, jealous of your find :) You got a lifetime supply of 15N20 steel - congrats. Unless the rust is pretty heavy I wouldn't worry to much about it. When you clean the steel for Damascus strips you'll be grinding anyway. If the rust...

    New Toys!

Good deal - now you can pay your dues by making a RR spike knife. Those are fun to make and can be anything from simple to more complex. Even can make an axe using a RR spike. https://www.anvilfire.com/iForge/tutor.php?lesson=spikeaxe/demo
