Cool stuff! Safety saw!!! A must see!

That's awesome--if you trust it to work right all the time, every time. Put a couple dozen hours on the saw in a home shop where it gets all kinds of wood debris in it--a lot of guys I know don't cleant their equipment after every use--then see if it works every time.

    Old Japanese Folder

Interesting that the bottle opener has been ground to a small blade. My first guess was that it was originally made for an advertisement knife, but the Zero puts that in doubt. This might be one to ask Bernard Levine about.

    Strongest Epoxy On The Planet

My brother works in the adhesive industry, making custom adhesives for a variety of applications, mostly labels. Adhesives are engineered for a variety of purposes--some are designed to be more permanent than others, etc. Also, they are engineered for different physical properties. You can...

    Anyone In the Toledo Area?

I'm over 2 hours away. Fred Rowe is a couple more hours from me. I forget if anyone else is up in that neck of the woods. If you were a fan of the old M*A*S*H TV show and remember the character Klinger, you should check out Tony Packo's restaurant. Yes, it really exists, and the food is good.

    info on a 2x42 I purchased

You have one of the older Craftsman 2x42's. I have one just like it. It's fast--dip your knives often to keep them cool. The newer models are 2 wheel and have a lot less power. The "platen" on this model isn't much--a little more than a bent piece of steel--but it works.

    Recommendations for a fall show?

Steve, The Ohio Classic is the latter half of October, in Cambridge, OH. Shouldn't be too bad of a trek from Ontario. http://www.ohioknifeshow.com/

    Disc grinder--grit options?

I know that the 2x72 belt grinder is the industry standard for custom knifemakers. But I also know that there are and have been a number of knifemakers that have used disc grinders as their primary grinder at least at some time during their career. Walt Kneubuehler, L.T. Wright (Blind Horse...

    The Danger of Neo

And that's just it--it's not just the collectors/buyers that have to have an eye for appreciating a neo-tribal blade vs. a modern handcrafted blade, but the new makers as well. At first glance a blade may look rough, but the appearance is intentional and by design, not by lack of skill. You...

    Personal Dilema Knife

"stuff like this disappears from hospitals all the time." So, there is an incomplete corpse that has been laid to rest somewhere. I'd be contacting a lawyer, and checking on the legality of having the bone in your possession. Something about "abuse of a corpse", etc. immediately comes to...

    Ricasso/Plunge line

Pocomoon. . . I see you're in Kentucky. Since you've google Scagel, take some time and Google Herschel House of Woodbury, KY. He and his brothers (Frank and John) and their cousin William White ("Cousin Willy") forge knives reminiscent of the 1700's Kentucky/Tennessee frontier. No...

    Stacked leather handle

I use a belt sander--1x42. Use new belts and a light touch so that material is removed and not burned. And go easy--leather grinds away very quickly.

    Grandpa's Old knife.

ArcherMoon, You have an old Marbles Woodcraft. I'm not up to speed on my Marbles knives enough to be able to estimate the age, but I know the pommels were made of different materials over the years. I believe stag were in the oldest variants (1920's), bakelite, and later aluminum. I think...

    HF bandsaws on sale

Just thought I'd give the other newbies on a budget here a heads up. Harbor freight has their red horizontal/vertical bandsaw on sale for $199. They also have a 20% off coupon which drops their portaband down to around $60. I believe Bossdog carries the better blades for them.
