    LINERLOCK - WIP

Next up using my templates I stuck them to the titanium for the frame and I’m using some RWL34 for the blade. I cut the backspacer from the same blade steel to give me a spacer with same thickness as the blade for initial design and then will use this as a template for a final backspacer most...

    LINERLOCK - WIP

I am keen to get comfortable making framelock folders so thought that sharing some WIP would both help me to document my process but also allow comment tips and critique so please let me know your thoughts as this goes on. It won’t be quick as I will need to get a few blades ready for HT as I...

    Ice

The cold just doesn’t compute when your sweating it out in a long hot very dry summer! I’m certainly not in the hottest part of Australia but our average daily maximum for the month of January was 37.9DegC = 100 Fahrenheit. We haven’t had really high (45 was long term max we have had =113 F) but...

Since you’re in N’zed you might be better off looking at setting up with fowlers vacola preserving jars. Has worked well for me. I grabbed vacuum pump from eBay.

    Help finding Bob Terzuola's book

Hi There everyone I am hoping someone may be able to point me in the direction of a source for Bob Terzuola's book with the following title? The Tactical Folding Knife: A Study of the Anatomy and Construction of the Liner-Locked Folder Bob Terzuola I have found very expensive second hand...

    Razor Sharp Edgemaking System

I understand you can sharpen a knife on many tools some of which are very cheap. Of course you can use a concrete footpath, coffee cup, car window, mouse pad etc etc. For me sharpening has been one of the most frustrating parts of knife making. Spending many hours finishing a knife to the best I...

    Razor Sharp Edgemaking System

I could get my knives very sharp quickly using the paper wheel sharpening system. My experience however was that my edges seem to dull quickly and I was never confident that I could walk up to my grinder and get great looking edges. I tossed up between Tormek with angle setting using software...

    PINS,PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT PINS!

Hi Grahame You will want to drill undersize then ream to size rather than drill to size - it will be the only way to get a truely round hole and accurate fit to your precision pin/pivot.

    PINS,PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT PINS!

Hi Grahame Well I was waiting to see if anyone else responded as I'm sure there are others with more experience on this subject than I but here goes. Yes small knife smaller pins and the opposite. For scales there can be pins that look larger than the actual hole through the tang if Corby's...

    PINS,PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT PINS!

Hi Grahame I’m not really sure what you are asking here? Pins are usually same diameter all along, pivots generally have a barrel that a folder pivots on and then usually larger diameter ends often screws that tighten against scales and hold everything together. You can get different sized...

    Handle reshape?

OK guys this one is getting closer to done but once again I am looking for input. I'm kind of excited by this handle material since its something I have wanted to do for ages and I certainly wasn't sure how it would turn out. This is my first attempt at making tartan micarta and I couldn't find...

    Handle reshape?

Quick update, have the bevels ground and hand sanding complete. Scales are gluing up now so hope to get this one finished this week. The handle could be great or a real let-down as I tried something new. I'll post some pics so you see what I mean once the epoxy is dry.

    Sharping help.

Also as you pass you reach the tip stop and pull the blade away from the belt before you reach the side of the belt. Hard to explain but you want to stop the blade being in contact with the belt when the tip reaches about half way across the belt (middle of belt).

    Sharping help.

It sounds like a technique issue, how are you going about you sharpening? If ever there was a subject where there will be a thousand ways to get to the same end point it is sharpening!

    Handle reshape?

Hey thanks guys for the valuable feedback. I’ll go slowly on the bottom side and keep the top as is. I’ll post up my progress with this one and hope to turn out a decent knife.

    Handle reshape?

I recently cut and profiled this blank and have had it heat treated (12C27) but now that I am playing with it getting ready to grind the blade it seems pretty uncomfortable so I am thinking of reshaping the handle. The intention is to use this knife as a general food prep slicer and the lower...

    Stitching

Have a look on YouTube at Ian Atkinson’s videos. He does one on neatening up saddle stitching. I think that will help give some pointers. There are guys without machines that can definitely do that level of neatness........ I’m not one of them.
