3/4 thick x 6" wide? Would rather use a horizontal bandsaw.... That's gonna be loud, slow, gritty...and you'll end up with a much hotter piece than you wanted...lol. Bandsaw you can walk away from...and do something else whilst sawing... I am sure I am over reacting....but only a bit.

You don't grind the "table" (saddle) on a surface grinder...you don't have enough travel. You only grind the mag chuck. You most likely will have to remove the knackered saddle (yes...that's what they did there...) and get it milled at a machine shop. If you just mount a chuck to it now...you...

Good advise Fitzo...I worked on handles today...took me all day to do a few hours work...everytime I thought I need to lie down...I went in to the office and sat till I felt like working....this was a good long day...yet not all of it on the shop floor...lol! My new normal....

wd-40 to clean...3-in-one or sewing machine oil to lube. just at the pivot. don't let it get inside the body. If it's a jeweled indicator....wd-40 to clean...no lube necessary. 409, etc. for the outside body and bezel...
