    Mikey D, Very nice shop! I can't/won't take any photos of mine, it's not clean as yours. Where did you find that sandpaper rack? I have wanted something like that for years. Fred

    Frustration = Discovery!

    I did the conversion also. The first time it did not work at all. Whatever I used to replace the plate fell apart pretty quickly. So I set it aside. Since I am a pack rat, I did not throw it away. Then I read this post by Ed and pulled it out and looked at it again. This time I used a piece if...

    Best and safest way of getting rid of galvanizing?

    Thanks for the replies. I thought I had replied earlier, but it seems lost in limbo. I will reply again. I did not explain very well. The paint stripper is for the several layers of paint on the outside of the tanks. Once I got that off, then I was going to tackle the galvanized coating. I am...

    Best and safest way of getting rid of galvanizing?

    I picked up a couple of small water tanks that would make great forges. Unfortunately they are galvanized. I am considering using paint stripper, and then cutting off one or both ends and putting it in some sort of fire outdoors. All advice welcome. Thanks, Fred

    Handle Broaches with simple tools WIP

    Thanks, George. They work, but I made the teeth shallower than Josh and more per inch so that they would not be as aggressive as his. I will make at least a couple that duplicate his. Broach making is fun. I forgot to mention that they are made from O1. Fred

    Handle Broaches with simple tools WIP

    Josh, Thanks to this thread, I decided to try my hand at making some.They are not as nice as yours, yet, but they should do the job. I contacted John Perry and he was nice enough to answer. He charges $100 per broach, and their gorgeous. I can't spend that much right now. While speaking to...

    First Leather Cutting Tool...

    As George suspects/knows that there was no way that I could have made a finished sheath in the time it took me to drive home and stop at a grocery store. LOL I found the sheath that I made for my first round knife(may it rest in peace) and dropped his beauty into it. It is a little large for it...

    Just finished making a maul! Check it out.

    I have made two mauls. A heavy one and a mid weight. I don't remember how much they weigh, but can weigh them for you. I don't have photos but will take them if you are interested. Both have teflon heads from the same piece. I core drilled the piece i had and ended with two pieces. I used 1/2"...

    Belt movement adjustment?

    Wayne, I do have a VFD, and will look into changing to direct drive. I can see how by passing the bearings and shaft is a win win situation. I have a 3 hp 3600 rpm motor slowed down by pulleys to about 1800. As a straight drive, it might be too fast. What do you think? Thanks, Fred
