New Elmax Super Steel Giveaway !!!

Count me in. Happy to do a WIP along with some cutting tests. Cutting tests are an excellent way to learn how your edge performs and how to improve your sharpening technique for particular tasks. Alistair

    3 blade Sowbelly

I have been finishing up some knives for the upcoming Adelaide Knife Show on Nov 6-7. I am really excited to show this one off as it is my first multiblade folder. I really need to get some better photos but I put together this quick edit. 3/32 O1 steel Stainless liners and bolsters...

    Recommended grinder for folders?

I reckon having a horizontal grinder is pretty useful for making folders as well. I have a Radius Master which can flip on it's side. Every grinder has its issues of course and there is a lack of clearance for the left hand with my grinder. If you can get around that it is an excellent grinder...

Definition of "Shadow Pattern" and explanation of washers?

Just any slipjoint without bolsters is refered to as a Shadow Pattern. So you can have a Shadow Pattern Swayback Jack or a Shadow Pattern Peanut. For installing washer it is for reinforcement in natural materials. It is completely safe to leave out in G10 etc. Have a look at my page on...

Knife #13 Mini-WIP: Now for something completely different.

One of the Seig X2 versions. I have the pulley drive conversion for it which makes a huge difference. Another thing that would be good is stops on the X and Y parts of the table, would make some things easier for sure. Alistair

Just remember that if you have a spot on the bolsters that is annealed if you plan on etching the bolsters the spot will etch at a different rate to the hardened steel

Just a few picked up here & there.

Yeah that is why I pm'd my answer to you. I have had 3 guesses before that.

Just a few picked up here & there.

Yeah the nail nick seemed out of place with those guesses. Based on the nail nick alone I would guess Ken Coats but apart from that you have me stumped :)

Just a few picked up here & there.

Wouldn't have a clue but I recall seeing a nice knife by Bill Ruple that had some fantastic filework on it like that. Rusty Preston is another one that comes to mind with the dovetailed bolsters and the filework. Alistair

    Rise and Fall Indicator Issues

I set mine up in a vice. Without the center pin in before HT I set it up there is about 0.005 for adjustment in the closed and half stop if there is one. After HT I assemble the knife and stick the pins in the Vice so I can adjust it under tension. A picture says a thousand words.
