    Slipjoint long pull question

Sometimes when i set the open postion the blade is canted slightly so i grind everything perfectly straight. If i make the long pull parallel to start with it may be slightly off when im done. Hope this makes sense.

What's going on in your shop?

Just finished this slipjoint for a customer. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. All the materials were his choice. Its supposed to be a companion piece to a fixed blade made out of the same stuff.

    Slipjoint long pull question

Thanks for the info Ken. My mill only goes to 2500 rpm. I thought a 5 thou cut was conservative. My feed rate is slow (by hand) i will try a higher quality end mill. Hopefully i can find one that works good. I like the end result but adding $20 to each knife is not ideal. I will also add some...

    Slipjoint long pull question

Hi Guys, I just got a mill and I have been looking for any excuse to use it. I decided to use a 1/16 end mill to mill long pulls in my slipjoints. Due to my process I need to mill this after hardening. I run my cpm154 at 62HRC so it is a bit of a challenge. I bought a carbide end mill on amazon...

    Surface grinder questions

Thanks for the reply. I am not looking to spend a small fortune at this time (or any time really...) I am hoping to fully disassemble and rebuild it using all the proper lubricants. I want to learn how it works and repair any deficiencies. My goal is to get the most out of the machine as is. I...

What's going on in your shop?

This weekend I did my first cryo treatment after getting some liquid nitrogen. I began a tear down on my old surface grinder and I made a quick plywood model of my framelock design to test the ergonomics before I have the parts waterjet cut.

    Surface grinder questions

I have realized you were correct about tearing the machine down. I was just being lazy... anyway I started the tear down and I have exposed the ways for x axis travel. I will keep going next weekend. There are some marks but it looks not bad. Im not educated on the machine so I cant say if that...
