Shop Music Thread- what are you listening to today?

I remember Alice Cooper performing Welcome To My Nightmare on an episode of The Muppett Show! (early 80s). About the same time Ozzy performed Bark At The Moon on Solid Gold. The 80s was a strange time

    new h/t oven question

Either everyone is super anal or I'm not nearly anal enough... I put my blades in when I get done wrapping the foil. The oven is usually about 1,000 degrees F, give or take. But I've put the blades in at all kinds of random times and I've never had a problem. I have broken blades and looked...

DIY Buffer, searched and want to make sure my set-up is ok.

I used to think certain things were unsafe. Then I started watching Pakistani Truck repair videos on youtube. Now I realize that cheating death on the regular is just part of a good day's work. /sarc (but seriously, check out those videos. It's amazing what they get done with almost...

    Controller

converting relays to solid state relays should be plug and play. SSR have two terminals for the “coil” and then the switch terminals. Some relays have extra options, but if you’re running off a controller you don’t need the relay to add any complexity. Just look for SSR with the same...

Never thought it would make much difference...

grounding / bonding can help but static is a tricky beast. The static forms on the belt itself and the charge differential can be on the surface rather than the backing where it would discharge through the wheels. It will build until it discharges on its own or through your hand to the...

Never thought it would make much difference...

Yep. I chased my grinds all iver the place, too. A lot of that was my inexperience but I firmly believe that had I started on glass I’d have learned a lot better, a lot faster.

    Slip joint steel thickness?

I’m with Ken. I use .110 because I use AEBL and I can usually only find it in .070 or .110 (and thicker) By the time I’ve flattened the blades and springs on my granite plate and hand sanded them 234 times, the finished product is typically about .105-ish and even on my tiny little slipjoints...

Never thought it would make much difference...

I went to glass about six months after I started and it made the same world of difference that you are seeing. Not to mention I went to glass because I was already changing a worn out platen and had read that the glass lasted way longer. That’s the understatement of the century. Glass platens...

I really like that handle. The shape appears like it would be very comfortable and the wood is beautiful.

    !st kitchen knife

A good robust knife like this is a very handy tool in the kitchen for breaking down frozen meats and splitting ribs, etc. Also excellent on fish for making steaks because you can split the backbone.

    SGA repair

I'm glad you identified the problem. That was a good find. That linear slide sounds like it's pretty doggone robust to have withstood that.

    natural stones and polished edges

My memory failed me. He made a spoon from knife steel, so it's not a regular kitchen spoon. Still impressive.
