John Doyle still posts his knives on here. But he doesn't comment to much anymore. Probably all that fishing he's doing.

Von Gruff. As far as I know he's still making knives. I messaged him about 18 months ago, and he was going strong.

Looking for Identification of this wood

Ben contacted me this morning and he is saying his best guess is Koa. He does have some great wood. I'll have to get some wood from him the next time.

Thanks I'll do that. I've been on his site many times and love the wood he carries. A bit expensive though.

I don't believe it's stabilized. It's to light for that. He'll be happy whether it's Koa or something else. But I'll keep what you've said in mind. In any event I'll post when I have the knife finished. Which at the rate I'm going could be another month.

Looking for Identification of this wood

According to several on the other forum it is Koa. So that's what I'm going to go with unless I find out different.

Thanks opaul. I agree. It should make an outstanding handle. I think I will post it on the other forum and see if anyone there knows what it is.

Looking for Identification of this wood

My stepson picked out this wood for his knife that I'm working on. And I have no clue what it is. It's quite light and iridescent when buffed. I was originally thinking Koa but as light as it is I'm thinking otherwise. Opinions?

    Knife class

Exactly. same here. It's very rare that I have more than four hours at one stretch. Usually more like two.

    Knife class

I've seen a few video's with challenges to make a knife in under that time. But I certainly couldn't do it in 8 hours. 8 Days maybe if I worked on it every day. I do wonder about the heat treat process also.

    Cheap Drill bits

Me neither. I've tried sharpening by hand, but results vary quite a bit. So I usually buy new bits. I may look into those Harbor Freight ones.

    What to charge for sharpening

I'm surprised the guy didn't ask ahead of time how much you charge. Personally I don't think $10 per blade would be too much. Or you could charge a flat $100 for all 12. Just a thought. However I haven't had to sharpen any blades except when I make them.
