Paul Lebatard and I collaborated on making this knife to raise advertising funds for the 100%er organization. The knife is 14" long overall with a 1/4" X 8 1/2" 440C blade, Blackwood handle and 416 stainless fittings. We will have it at the 100%er Micro invitational knife show at Cutlery...
Steve,
I've been every year for about 15 years and have had a table for the past 10 years but not this year. It's still a knife show but mostly factory knives and a Preppers circus.
A little more done.
Well I got it glued and screwed together this morning. I should finish it Monday unless the fish are biting good tomorrow and I have to fish more on Monday.
Anybody ever seen a kitchen knife with a shield inlay?
Sandvik 14C28N is the steel, 61Rc, 3/32" thick, 8" long blade, flat ground, hand finished to 15 micron. The handle will be amboyna burl attached with 6 - 3/16" stainless Corby bolts. This knife is for me, that's why the big handle, for my big hands.
I started this knife last September then left it on my bench and went deer and Turkey hunting for 7 months. Now I'm back at it and hope to finish it up tomorrow.
Yes Ken, it is wood, poplar I believe. Two halves with a spacer all around like a welt in a leather sheath. I taught him how to make knives not sheaths . He was already an expert at sharpening kitchen knives and making sayas when he came to me to learn how to make knives.
I bought this knife from Comet (Trey Richburg) at Paul Lebatard's hammer In, Saturday.
Trey makes very fine Japanese style kitchen knives. I'm not familiar with the Japanese lingo used to describe their knives so I call this a pareing knife. The AEBL blade is 4.5" long and the knife is 8.5"...
