What's the best stitching pony design?

Well, I'm far from an old pro, but I've done about 50 sheaths now. Here is the stitching pony I made a few months ago. I'm sure there are better designs, but this simple little design certainly made things easier on me. Good luck! Chris PS Anthony, if you keep your leather projects in the...

    Yet another first

In continuing to improve and expand the skill sets I made my first purse. I drew up my own 1 piece pattern thinking I would like it better than the 2 or 3 piece versions I had seen in some tutorials. Of course I used the opportunity to practice carving and tooling. I used 6oz leather and...

What's going on in your shop?

Thank you for the compliment. As for replacing the blade, I cheated by not messing with the handle at all. I drilled and drove out the pivot pin. Pulled the blade out, made a copy, slid the new blade in and peened a new brass pivot pin in place. The only refinishing I did to the handle was on...

What's going on in your shop?

The first finished blade out of my shop in months is just a little replacement blade I made out of 1080 for a Buck 110. Good looking work all around fellas! :35: Chris

    An arrow "sheath"

Thank you for all the praise. I guess maybe I better be careful or I'll have to start calling myself a leather worker instead of a knife maker! :what!: Chris

    New Maker's Mark

Thanks fellas and Thank You Justin. It means something you took time to do that for me. I like it, and it's undoubtedly a better design, but I'm just not sure it's me. I have it saved to a couple different places for future reference and/or tweaking. Chris

    New Maker's Mark

I know this topic gets brought up about every 30 minutes, but I'm looking for some input. I am continually striving to improve all aspects of my knife making. I am currently looking to improve or upgrade my mark. I am currently using an acronym of my name(CAJ) in the shape of a horse's head. I...

    Redbud burls

I found these Eastern Redbud Burls while clearing some trees at work. There were a few more smaller burls I didn't bother with and even now, I'm not sure the 2 small ones I did harvest are worth saving. I thought it was neat the one small burl had flower buds on it. I plan on sealing the...

    Question on hidden tang material

I&L, I won't argue there are things you would do with certain blades and/or swords that you wouldn't with others. However, in your example of katana vs. broadsword, I think blade style and grind have a far greater impact on the decision than the style of handle. I posted that link because it...

    Question on hidden tang material

I agree with the others that you are overthinking it. Look at it this way, a very large percentage of swords throughout history were NOT full tang. This being a tool that many depended on with their lives in battle. Here is a discussion on the topic I found on another forum if you are...

Beautiful shots as always Caleb. I only wish I could remember half of what you talked about in your presentation at the Symposium in October. Chris

    An arrow "sheath"

There are a whole list of things I'd do differently and to get a good look at the main stitch line it is horrid. I however was a whole lot of the tooling practice I was looking for. Thanks, Chris

This happens quite frequently. I think that my calipers have the greatest gift for this. Chris
