    Burnishing 3-4 layer edges

I think the trick is to make sure that when you grind the edges you grind deep enough to defeat all those gaps the first time around. And then proceed with the rest of your burnishing process. But when they show up further down the line I do go back to the grinder with them. As a small leather...

    Belt progression

I do a minimal grind pre-HT with a 36 grit ceramic. After HT I use an 80 grit ceramic to get 95% of the edge/bevel where I want it. Then, a good quality new 120 ceramic to finish the edge geometry to pretty much 99%. After that I run with the Trizact A65, A45 for that last bit to smooth out...

Question re: Copper liners on Carbon Fiber.

Just noticed that I never followed up on this one. To wrap things up, the outcome was great. I was able to build and deliver the knife to the customer who was very happy with it. Thank you all for the helpful comments!

    The Laser Thread

I would say no. I have a 10Watt diode laser (Ortur Laser Master 3). Of course more power would be better. But my 10 watt laser cuts thick veg tanned leather and makes a fine maker's mark on my knife. If I were to want something else it would be a fiber laser. Those make a much deeper mark...

    The Laser Thread

That's the one I have and I've been happy with it. Cuts thick leather and does a fine maker's mark.

What's going on in your shop?

I think a sponge may also make an interesting texture, any fabric that carries water and has an interesting texture should work. Mileage may vary. Good luck!

What's going on in your shop?

This is not my idea. I saw this on YouTube. I tried it and had to play with it a bit before I was happy with it but its pretty straight forward. Just like etching your makers mark but replace the stencil with a piece of towel which is wet with warm, salty water. Not super soaked, but soaked...

What's going on in your shop?

Prior to grinding bevels = Yes! For best results. I use the personalizer plus to do this. You clip the red cable to the tang and use the black cable/pad with wet towel sitting on top of where you want the texture then make contact. Your machine should be on "etch" not "mark". 10 to 15 second...

    How Many Knives at Once...

Two at a time seems to be a good spot for me but I am looking to up my numbers a bit.

What's going on in your shop?

Thank you! Just about 6-7/8" OAL. Texture on flats are done with the electro-etch machine and a towel. The towel is used to make contact and that is the texture you get. Other fabrics will leave different patterns.

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

The modest 10 Watt diode laser (Ortur Laser Master 3) gets an A+ on putting a maker's mark on knives. Deep enough to feel and even delivers two shades of grey. The detail is superior to what I could do with the electro etching. Very consistent. I am very happy with these results and will be...

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

Well, I tell you what. I love this thing so far. Cuts 10-12 oz leather in one pass and does not even need 100% power to do it. Fairly easy to set up and get going after assembly. It absolutely does stink pretty bad. But the cutting is unmatched and precise. Veg tanned only. Does not work on oily...

    I bought a laser engraver/cutter

Impressive indeed. Thank you very much for sharing, Chris! I picked up the latest Ortur Laser Master 3 - 10Watt Diode Laser and downloaded LightBurn so I can start learning my way around it. I use Inkscape quite a bit so learning LightBurn should not take too long. I look forward to using...
