First Website! please check it out :D

I'm pretty critical when it comes to websites, but yours is nice and clean and well organized with good navigation and an appropriate minimum of categories. One of my favorites, and I really the best I've seen that wasn't done by my wife. Pictures are good and clear, colors are pleasant, it...

Are we doing this? I always look forward to this time of year because we get to see everyone's best work on display. I'd hate to miss out.

Hello, from small town Alberta Canada.

I strongly suggest that you fill our your profile to let people know where you are. There are some very talented makers in Alberta who also happen to be very nice folks that love nothing better than helping folks learn to make better knives. I spent a year in Calgary a short while back, and even...

    Knifemakers' Holiday Blessing

I was thinking about what a blessing it is to be able to make knives, to have gotten to know so many wonderful people in the worldwide knifemaking community, and also about how short life really is, so I have composed the following Knifemakers' Holiday Blessing for all knifemakers everywhere...

Howdy from new guy in Texas.

Texas is a big place. Fill out your profile--there's likely a lot of us near you but we don't know where that is.

Anyone using the HF 18 LB vibratory tumbler??

Ed/Everyone, How much do you finish blades before tumbling? If I could take them up to a 220 or 400 grit belt finish and then tumble it would save me a lot of time on some of my more basic blades. Is it even necessary to go that fine? The world of blade tumbling is completely new to me.

    "Sibling Rivalry" Stiletto Dagger

They're both for sale. I prefer "votes" via PayPal ;) .

    "Sibling Rivalry" Stiletto Dagger

Since we're both knife makers my brother and I spend a lot of time talking about knives, and on one occasion not too long ago we were discussing what to do with an oddly sized piece of steel he had. I had the idea that he should saw it down the middle to create two long, thin halves, and we...

For sale, 2x72" variable speed grinder !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an Esteem and I love it. If I weren't in Africa for work and didn't live 1000mi away from you in Texas, I'd buy this one just to have another. I think the Esteem is the best grinder on the market for the money, and $1300 is truly a steal.

    Email list

There is an unsubscribe option, yes. MailChimp provides a lot of different mail templates, and mine all also contain a link to my website where the knives are posted for sale. First person to click the PayPal button wins! In fairness, my wife (who does web and graphic stuff professionally)...

    Email list

I do exactly what you described, and wait a few days after sending to my list before posting knives for sale elsewhere. It's pretty uncommon that I have to try to sell anywhere besides my list, which is good and bad I think. Good because hey, sales! But bad because it tends to limit my market...

"smokin'" Father's Day present to myself

Tim, That's a big question I've been asking myself, and it's a similar one to the knife pricing issue. How much of it is related to quality? Or materials? Or reputation? Having been a knife maker for a good while now, I know that my pipes have the benefit of those skills and are quite a bit...

"smokin'" Father's Day present to myself

This is the 4th pipe I've made, and the first from proper briar. I think this is the last one I'll keep for a while--gotta start selling a few. Smokes really nice, but it's got a bigger bowl than I'm used to and it about knocked me out!

    Pipes aren't just for plumbers

Here's my next one, walnut this time instead of pecan. This one smokes WAY better than the first couple, in part because I got some long drill bits and tapered them for drilling out the stem. Makes things flow better.

    Pipes aren't just for plumbers

Thanks fellas. If you have a drill press and files you can make pipes. A grinder helps some, and a lathe helps alot, but it can be done without either. If anyone is interested in learning, there's tons of stuff on YouTube, and also www.pipemakersforum.com. Justin, I'll see what I can do.

    Pipes aren't just for plumbers

My 90 year old grandfather has been smoking pipes since his kids were born. I myself am not much of a smoker, but do enjoy a cigar every once in a while. Anyway, recently I was over at another knife maker's house, and saw his pipe collection. He said he wished he had a lathe so that he could...

I finally feel like a big boy...

It tracks pretty much perfectly and the tracking adjustment is very sensitive. I haven't (and won't) run it in reverse.

I finally feel like a big boy...

The hinged plate is an option. There's a 1.25" support rod that I've not yet attached that keeps the weight off of the motor housing when flipped horizontal. It didn't come with an additional toolrest, but the tooling arms are tapped for toolrest reorientation, and the toolrest is very flexible...
