    Pocket Axe

I would expect this is a very fine axe to help with field work. I don't believe in the use of a 4" knife to chop bones or whatever on animals. I usually carried a folding saw, or a regular sized small axe. Nice work Mister ! Frank

    Mammoth Ivory Slipjoint for ICCE.

I make a lot of folders with mammoth ivory. I traded off folders for the material. I love the looks each piece has and long ago established a working pattern for it. Notice i didn't include mammoth tooth. I still find it difficult to drill clean holes in this material and sometimes am still not...

    Help guys:)

It can be difficult finding pieces that people are willing to give you. These materials are expensive and can be used in smaller sizes on knives. Frank

    First Framelock WIP

I may be too late for this but ---. The blade cut out for the leaf should be close to 8 degrees. To get this angle an easy way place a 1/8" thick piece of metal 7/8" away from the flat platen on your grinder. You can just tape it in place. With a 120 grit belt still on it grind the angle with...

Pointers for working with Mammoth ivory

Like Ed said some work the mammoth ivory in a different manner. The other ivories I haven't used. I use a 35 grit belt to establish flats and then go with the finer grits both on a 2 X 72 platen and a disc whatever I feel will do to the job at hand. The surface plate I used a lot before I had...

    Sometimes ignorance is bliss....

I was given a huge one about 24" X 30" say 10 years ago. After asking me about it a good knife maker friend went into a counter making store and was given two smaller ones. The granite ones are super: the marble ones are on the soft side. Frank

Thanks for that Calvin. Might be a better method than what I'm using. I definitely will give that a try. Frank

    Knife Show Stock

Having a selection of the "models" you make can help make sales. You may find sales to be slow if this is your first time to have a table in that location. I would concentrate on quality not quantity. Frank

    Etching Damascus Blades

I've used several of Chad Nichol's stainless patterns. What you can do is paint the area you are going to place your name on with fingernail polish, and then etch the blade. Of course it would be best to do a test piece. Frank
