    Welding Damascus

I agree with what Ed said. A welded joint at a critical junction is just not a good idea. 4" is a nice size for a folder blade though.

I'm a succor for feather Damascus. Very nice work, Mike. Great design and well executed. If you don't mind me asking, how did you keep the Damascus etch around the tang? Did you etch it after attaching and shaping the scales?

    First Folder. Now a WIP

I've never seen the detent done with a screw, but I suppose it would work if you rounded off the tip nicely and locked the treads in place so that they don't move. I'm interested to see what you come up with. Even if your detent is close to the front of the lock bar, as long as your detent...

    Satin Finishing and file advice.

My method is to grind my blades up to 400 grit. I then hand sand with 220 grit lengthwise on the blade to remove any irregularities from grinder mistakes and such. Then back to the grinder a 400 grit, 600 grit, and 1000 grit. I then finish with hand sanding at 600 grit for a final finish. I...

    AEB-L and Turkish walnut

Great work, Kev. I echo what everyone else has said and will add that your design should make for a terrific little workhorse of a knife. Well done.

    First Folder. Now a WIP

You're moving along nicely, Jake. Glad to see that the liners are going to work for you. Just a little advice for the detent, if you don't mind me sharing. I try to keep mine up as high and as forward as I can, i.e. as close to where you drilled your relief hole as you can. This will keep...
