    Straight cuts on the Bandsaw

    Thanks Ed- unfortunately, space will limit me in my shop. Not an option for me to get a dedicated wood saw. Thanks for the input!

    Straight cuts on the Bandsaw

    I was wondering what method everyone uses when cutting wood blocks/stock down to usable scale sizes. I dont have a table saw with fence ( that would be the optimal setup) I have been using my Portaband that is in a Swag table. I mark out the block to the desired size then steadily try to...

    Cork Belt

    I have a 600 grit in the shop and use it with green compound. Puts a shine on a bevel while still leaving the faint appearance of the previous grind lines. It does look good on certain types of blade styles.

    Hidden Tang shoulder /no file guard

    Just got this same one a month ago- replaced my shop made plunge guide that just reached the end of its life. It was good, but without the carbide, it had suffered many little nicks and dings.

    AEB=L bad Heat Treatment?

    Thanks for the offer. I am in NJ. I have sent well over 40 knives to the same heat treater and only the two ever came back as not quite as hard. I guess one way to avoid this is to get my own heat treat oven which is on my list of purchases.

    AEB=L bad Heat Treatment?

    Not really sure what happened with those 2 blades. What RHC do do heat your AEBL to? What process with temp and temper?

    AEB=L bad Heat Treatment?

    Daniel, I trust them in so far as I have sent 7 batches (each usually with 5/6 blades) and of all of those- only 2 have Rockwell tested low (about 56) All the rest come back at my requested RHC of 60/61 for AEB-L. Honestly, even the 2 that came back low- skated a file and performed fairly well...

    AEB=L bad Heat Treatment?

    I sent six knives out last week for heat treat to the same place I always have. The heat treater called me today to let me know that one of the six only hardened to 55 Rockwell ? All the steel came from the same place and that blank probably was cut from the same length as one of the others...

    Need help installing metal band saw blade.

    I have the harbor freight bandsaw and the swag table. Just change the blade yesterday took about 30 seconds once you get the hang of it. Some posters earlier mentioned put the blade into both sets of rollers first. Then hold that in place wrap the bottom around the bottom wheel and then the top...
