I think he is referring to a small wheel holder. Uncle Al has a grinder with a small wheel that the guys who make integral knives use to finish the transition from blade to bolster.
You can hide the pins in same handle materials where you almost cannot see them. i have used natural canvas pins and thong hole and you could not see them. Black micarta for black paper micarta bolsters are also good.
Check with drag line crane companies. I used to get a lot free because if a line kinked then they had to replace the whole line for insurance purposes. I still have about 30 feet out in the shed for future projects/
