    Getting wax off wood block?

I just use a scraper. Simply a piece of flat , straight scrap metal with the long edges sharpened as a chisel grind.

Thanks Greg. Yeah I wanted to make an All Angled knife. The handle was very crisp, but so uncomfortable so I softened it. Looked good though. Sort of had a stealth plane look to it. ;-)

    Finishing Canvas Micarta

I usually go to 400 grit and see what it looks like. I wet it with some spit to look at the contrast of colors (if using multicolored stuff). The higher grits will show errant scratches that I've missed and removes the fine fibers (jf any). If it looks good then I just oil it. Light coat. But...

    Finishing Canvas Micarta

Either way works. Just depends on the look you want and how it will be used. Roughly sanded gives a better gripping surface. Me, I sand it till it looks good and then put a coat of TruOil on it. Done. Scott

    Need some help/info

Can be shaped using files and sandpaper (wrapped around various shapes for contours). Finish it with fine sanding and buffing, even by hand. Dust is plain yucky and not good for you. Rough it up and clean it well (Acetone) before epoxying. I drill through the liner and into the scales a smidgen...

    It's Nice To Have Support

Hi Randy. I have a Milwaukee brand variable speed. It cuts and cuts using 14 tpi blades. I cut all my stock, both metal and handle material with it. The blades are the same brand and I have broken only two pushing hard and trying tight curves. Knew better both times. :-0 The only things I don’t...

    3/16 inch knives?

IMO, a bit overkill for kitchen cutlery, except for a cleaver/chopper of some kind. Definitely OK for Bushcraft, tactical or hunting. Probably, most importantly, the design and use should dictate the materials, stock thickness and of course geometry. Gonna have some weight to it.

Thank you all! Randy, I really liked working those scale. Not super hard, so they sanded well and easy with no burn. I’m finding open coated 60 grit belts for the roughing to be best for me. Two thin coats of TruOil brought out the colors. I am really liking AEB-L.

    First customers knife.

Years ago I used to purchase thousands of dollars of Dymondwood from Rutland Plywood. Even had custom color panels laid up. Stuff is dense and heavy and I've used some scraps for knife handles before. My concern is that that product is a bit brittle and if dropped, it will chip and crack. Also...

How long will I make rookie mistakes?

Drilling Corby bolt holes a bit deeper than I wanted. And then getting epoxy in their holes during assembly.
