    Handle Treatments

For me, it is not the issue of contiminating the food as much as it is the protection of the handle from the elements. In my own experience, it is the banging around and sometimes left in the sink that influences the longevity of the handle’s finish. Even well applied, multiple coats of TruOil...

    Jimping Preferences?

Hey scher, I agree with the dark look being what I want as well, but, sometimes there is hard, crusty stuff that looks bad and unfinished. It won’t scape out and I don’t want to ruin my checkering file.

Thank you John, I’ll try that. Hopefully that will fit the grooves. I’ve tried abrasive cord of the correct size, but, the abrasive scrubs off or the cord breaks before doing much.

    Router recommendations

I use the laminate trimmer sized router with variable speed. Uses 1/4” shafted bits. I added a larger base plate out of some clear Lexan I had because I did not like the round base that it came with. (Too easy to rock.) The current brand I have is made by Rigid and I have put it through hell and...

What's going on in your shop?

Just was thinking you could use something like this or similar and utilize the rear hole, unless there will be a pin in it.

What's going on in your shop?

Hi Ted. Mini-Bowie ? Could you use the rear hole with something like a barrel nut, similar to what is used in knockdown furniture, etc.? You could make it yourself and use a smaller diameter screw. Or is the hole spoken for? Scott

    kind of in a pinch

All good soundmind. It was only in fun. I imagine that anything that wipes the fine debris/oil and leaves no residue will work.

    kind of in a pinch

Why? I use it, it works well and I don’t have much in the way of safety concerns. Can you not find any? I reckon you could use some Everclear, take a nip here and there while prepping...

    Jimping Preferences?

Mark, I use a file guide and start mine on the spine edge going lightly. Then after those are done I use one or two of the end of the finished as my spacing guide. Take your time.
