    Tool Maintenance

I have a 20 yr old Delta benchtop drill press ... love the thing. It never moves and I don’t bang on it with hammers and sticks. Lately I noticed a little wobble in the bits and some holes were more obrounds than circles. Put a dial indicator on it today and wow it was out like 40 thou. Popped...

    Christmas gift idea help?

You said it could be wood ... I always get compliments when I gift end grain cutting boards. They’re a little time consuming because glue up but dead simple in concept.

    Ceramic Kiln??

Yeah ... but my wife will need to fire ceramics ... I might just budget a real heat treating oven/kiln once I get a bit more experience

    Sheath Glue.

I’ve used different contact cements for years ... It really doesn’t matter which. I have used binder clamps but I put some small pieces of card stock paper or something else to keep from leaving marks. Like Bruce said .. the stitching is the real “glue”. Oh I’ve also used contact cement tape...

    my first real sheath

That’s kinda neat! I’ve made double loop sheaths before .. where the knife sits horizontally on your back ... and just basic loops. This is kinda like a hybrid. Never seen this before. Thanks for modeling ;)

Thanks! I always get jobber length just haven’t found a good place to get decent lettered bits. I used to run a machine shop and we had tons of them but I never did the ordering

    Ceramic Kiln??

We just bought a used Skutt ks818 kiln from our neighbor. My wife is into pottery so we couldn’t pass it up. It uses a kiln sitter which uses “cones” to determine when to shut off .. has anyone used this type of kiln for heat treating knives? Either way the upside is that I ran a new isolated...

    my first real sheath

Looks great Bruce. The stitching looks a little proud to me. Could be the groove isn’t deep enough or the stitches aren’t quite tight enough... just my 2¢

    Clip Point WIP

I’m not scared to learn and “mess up” my 600 grit ... so I heat treat then grind the bevel down to thin enough to put an edge on. Thanks for all the guidance guys ... I’ve made a few knives that were acceptable but I want to get it right.

    Clip Point WIP

I’m thinking it’s more like half a dime ... I’ll put calipers on it tomorrow and report back. It doesn’t seem too thick to put an edge on but I’m a beginner

    Clip Point WIP

I have not heat treated yet ... it’s 1084. Planning on putting into the forge until non-magnetic then quench in preheated canola. I know I’ll have some cleanup to do after.
