    Press build update

Wear your safety glasses and if you can put a divider/wall between the press and the forge would be a good idea. I love my press. I would not trade it for anything! Well, maybe a few things! I used Traveller ISO 46 hydraulic oil from tractor supply.

    Press build update

Something like that happened to me, the check valve broke loose in the filter housing, clogging the line, blowing the return line off my control valve.

    Twisted Damascus

Here is one i am working on now, it is out of the same billet as the first knife in this post. Notice how the file work is camouflaged by the etching. That is why i do not re-etch the tang.

    Twisted Damascus

That was 11 layers, I forged the bar out to 11 or 12 inches and 1 1/8" square, I then forged all 4 corners of the bar in so I ended up with a 1 1/8" octagon or round bar. I then twisted it 2 1/2 times. I do not re-etch the the tang, the etch kind of clutters the look of the vine carving so I...

Kerosene as flux for hand welds

Chris, I have an offer for you, why don't you get 5 or 6 billets ready then drive up here one week end and we will use my press to squeeze them together. After you get that size billet to welding heat it takes 10 seconds on my press to complete the weld.
