    Blade sanding and finishing

Can we see pictures of your work? That may help us determine the issue. I've cut my hand sanding time drastically compared to what it use to be.

    Christmas Exchange 2018!

I got my gift from Ty Adams today. A beautiful piece of redwood burl that I will put to use. A hunk of mammoth ivory which will be great for the Ebony and Ivory knife I've been planning. He also gave me an 1/8" mosaic pin. Thank you very much Ty!

Great to see all the cool gifts! I need one of those machinist squares. Boss dog reminds me I need to try an Ulu.

    An Under $30 Find

I have a counter top wholesaler in my town. They gave me a 2'x3' section for a $10 cutting fee. They told me anything under 4' long was scrap and they threw it out. It isn't accurate to .0001 but it's flat enough for my work.

    Making Room

I have both. The Burr King is nice and it's smooth, but so is the TW90 and it's more easily changed from tool to tool.

    Belts

Everyone comments on how great Beth is, and they are right, but the truth is that everyone that works there does a great job, we just don't ever hear from them. I've been there several times and everyone is so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. If they don't know the answer to your question (a...

    Convection toaster review

I use my toaster oven for softening Kydex. Tempering is done in my convection oven or kiln. Both hold accurate temperatures.

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

That photo is fresh off the camera, no editing. My handles always seem to loose detail. I'm just using the overhead LED lights in the shop. My wife has Photoshop, but I have no clue how to use it, and I've tried. She isn't good with it either. I'll try the white card to try to light specific areas.

Post pics here for critique - must have thick skin

I moved my photo tent out to the shop where I had better light. I still am not getting photos like I wish. Any tips are appreciated.

If you know someone who would be interested in doing this again this year, please let them know! I'm surprised Larry Franklin and Peter Martin aren't in here.

    Tempering

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I wasn't talking about any steel in particular because I didn't figure it mattered. I work with 80crv2 all the way up to CPM M4. I'll just make sure I take them out and cool then quickly. If it's good enough for Kevin Cashen it's good enough for me.

    Tempering

I've wondered if it causes an issue for tempering if the knives are left in the oven to cool down. Can I set my kiln for a 2 hour temper before I go to bed and then get the knives out in the morning? Is there any harm in doing that? My guess is no, but I'm not an expert.
