    More Damascus trial and error.

Looks good to me too and looks like you took to forge welding right away. I know for me I'm going to try for smaller billets/san mai(?) next time.

Very clean. Nice sheaths, too. Hope it works out for you here in the states.

I like the smoky/misty effect on those.

    More Damascus trial and error.

Does it have a deep etch? I wonder how it would look buffed clean. Looks good like that too though.

any good design ideas for push knives?

Just curious. I've been thinking about how to give people an ulu with better edge retention than what I usually see.

Yeah I saw you cut your finger on your bandsaw making that. When I saw that photo I thought it was going to be from the round edge. I know making mine was scary - trying to figure out which way to grind, sand, and finish. What kind of steel did you use for your ulu?

Been doin' lots of other stuff but managed to also get a leather knife made for myself alomg with that other one for our frend. I needed a couple days to recoup after agitating the nerves in my lower back again and finished up a sheath for it too. Excuses...excuses... This is birch burl I had...

    Cootes Grinder Table Setup

Looks really nice Bob., I thought I was the only one who ever thought of that! You really made that work well. I threw around the idea of having a table I could raise and lower like that. I read awhile back that some makers grind sitting down and wanted that option during the learning phase...

    Cootes Grinder Table Setup

Are you going to mount it against a wall or keep it on a cart? I mounted mine against a wall and also wasn't sure on the height. I attatched a level 2 x against the wall, then built the rest off of that using screws all around if I wanted to re-adjust the height. On another bench I built I just...

    Thoughts on WA Handle finishes

I wanted to also try spray acrylic. Along the same lines, Kyle Royer used something like a spray epoxy in his you tube video, Glass Finish. you can check it out - I wanted to get ahold of that as an option too.

    Thoughts on WA Handle finishes

I was thinking to try Fuller's Varnish as an alternative. It absorbed well and hardened on a test peice, but I haven't had the chance yet to test it's durability.

This is the one I gave them. I ended up having fun with it. They were happy with it. The edge is hardened and I barely pulled off a bolster slot under 50 thou. Lucky shot.

What's going on in your shop?

I really like the line that runs from the center of the handle into the scabbard and that it's the same thickness as the spine. Beautiful knife. Looks comfortable, too. I like the feel of a knife with the handle bumped up a little higher than the spine.

    Tuxedo Damascus gent's folder

I hadn't thought of different etching rates. Along with the color differences that's a great detail.

I after this I found lots of info on you tube if interested. A search for head knife or round knife yielded a lot of results with more trails to follow.

any good design ideas for push knives?

Forged to shape. It was a challenge. I started out trying to split a 1" wide bar to begin with making the heel. The split went ok, but I got lost in the process of making the rest. So I switched to a pretty liberal preform cut out of 2" x 1/4" 1075. I hooked a corner I had in the ricasso...
