    Handle material

Hi Aikenn, The two sets of stabilized moose I've put on to knives have done that on me during the build, but the bow was only slight and I was able to pull them back together with clamps, epoxy, and rivets. But this was on fixed blades so not sure how thin you need to get for a folder. I also...

    My new EDC for awhile

That is a good article. Even though it's short it's enough info to give it a try. Have you watched any videos on it yet? I searched "how to make birch oil" on you tube last night got the videos we watched already. They we're helpful, too - good to compare the amount other people get for the...

I really like themed knives, too. Once I got the hamon I wanted to finish it this way. Thanks Dennis.

Search "distilling birch bark." It's a lot of fun to do when you're sitting around a fire.

    My new EDC for awhile

Let it burn for an hour or two - adding wood to keep it hot - not so much though that the bark inside catch on fire. I'm trying to load a shot of the size of the fire but it won't work. file too large, but, honestly, it wasn't that big of a fire! That firepit we have is about 24" diameter and...

    My new EDC for awhile

Thanks fellas. It's got a few details to be refined but by far my favorite knife I've ever owned. Here's the process: I cut and pasted this quote from another forum. I still have the link bookmarked if your interested, but this is the most relevant. "I cut anywhere from 12-18 face cords of...

What's going on in your shop?

Stone spacer coming together. 1st one of those, too. The green spacer is vulcanized paper I might have ruined by using water. If I can get everything close I hope to switch them to white, filework the edge of the stone and fill it in with white epoxy- but I might be still dreaming. My kids...

Sharpening a Knife with a Belly (Inside Curve)

Sounds good - I also admit to not having done many. I remember figuring it out though when I was using the slack belt between the tracking and idler wheels. I noticed the sides of the belt would bend away with pressure and I'd have less contact at one time on the recurve edge.

Sharpening a Knife with a Belly (Inside Curve)

You have to use a belt narrower than the full 2", like 3/4' - 1", depending on the curvature. I've also used lansky (sharpening system) stones, too which are less than that and leave a nice clean finished bevel.

    my first "clean" hamon

My first hamon, using file steel, without extra little dark lines in it. I have 1075 from Admiral that I was trying to forge and thermal cycle in order to reduce alloy banding. I got a nice hamon with it, but it had lines in the hamon which I think is alloy banding. So I'm still learning with...

    Taking a break

It seems like I'm more efficient after a good break and not as tied to old unfinished projects. But during my breaks I'm still thinking about making knives and try to pick up materials, ideas, contacts, tools - stuff that's still related.
