    I hate guards...

Thanks fitzo. I'll cache your reply. Its helpful. I've been off the forums lately but got an email from KD of recent threads. This one caught my attention because I'm not sure if you can ever keep that line clean when you start using the knife. I always seem to scratch it up later when I clean...

I would like to try that fitzo, only I can't see how to clean that up.

    natural stones and polished edges

I ended up with a nice piece of quartzite which I flattened and roughed up with a diamond cup wheel for an angle grinder and about a 60 grit diamond file. I'm not sure what grit I have yet, but it will nicely touch up my edge. It's a nice glacier blue when it's wet and will raise a slurry. I...

Never thought it would make much difference...

Thanks Tracy...that shock can interrupt a nice pass and makes it a little tougher trying to figure out my grinder.

    natural stones and polished edges

That's all helpful. Polishing with natural stones sure caught my attention but I soon realized it could be a waste of time unless I was making/using razors. Not that I wouldn't mind, but there are lots of other ways I could use my time. I appreciate the replies, thanks. I'll probably try...

    natural stones and polished edges

I could probably spend some time in the next forum under this one but had a couple questions anyway on sharpening. Is a polished edge practical for hunters or only used primarily for kitchen knives and razors? (I was thinking for someone's edc it'd be a matter of preference?) I also have a...

What I’ve been up to lately.

No I was waiting till I got a moose so I could hopefully get a picture of your knife with it. I thought that would have been a much nicer post. Then our season doesn't close until Jan 1st so was still looking for an opportunity the first half of the winter. I had one but wasn't sure how post rut...

What I’ve been up to lately.

I got a knife off Justin last summer. I know he said they weren't hunters but they served their purpose for me. Here's some pictures of it splitting joints for me on some grizzly someone gave us. This was a big one. I've never had anything kydex before but I like the sheath. It's got good...

    Sanding Stones???????

I grabbed a 2" wide sharpening stone to blend out a gouge on a plungless knife the other day and it worked well. I was able to come back over it with 320 and was less than 15 min. to fix. I'm not sure if the edm stones wear faster than sharpening stones. I'd like to try them still. I could see...

    G10 Lanyard tube

Yeah my son has a lot of broken arrows I snagged before they went to trash. They're different sizes. I just measured and these are .235 and .310. I thought about broken fishing poles too, but they're tapered.

    When pins get hot

I've been working on, again working on, the technique of getting everything pretty close to done before I epoxy - guard, spacers, butt cap, pins. That way I don't heat the epoxy up when I even things out later. Then either install round pins while epoxy is setting or leave a hole and install a...

    quick dog run story

So we had someone new out on their first dug mushing trip with a friend of ours who is young but pretty experienced with dogs. They went pretty far - about ten miles- and were on their way back. It was dark by now - cloudy and no moonlight. Not too far out of town our friend, the musher fell off...

    ROCKROOSTER

I've got the same ones. They're light, too. Mine are the 400 gram I used them in the fall. I didn't know they had been around so long. Mine lasted about two years, too. The rubber pulled away from the leather above the sole so no longer water proof.

    Shop Tour

Enjoyed that! Nice nod to KD members. I'll be checking out your other vid's some time, too. Do you find it hard to do your heat treating that close to the floor? My tempering oven is low to the ground. A couple winters ago I tried to use a wood stove on the ground outside. It was/is a bear...

    Boot knife sheath clip

My wife got me a good book awhile back: Making Leather Knife Sheaths by David Holter and Peter Fonteddu. It goes through the process of building a clip into a sheath in one of the projects.

    Burl

I discovered Anchorseal as I was looking up the pentacryl and found a forestry forum where a lot of people swear by it for logs. I was looking into ordering them both when our internet cut out again. We've got a semi local hardware store that might have them but everything is about double the price.
