    Anler scales!

It looks as if perseverance paid off with a creation to be proud of.

    Morland Picture Gallery

Very nice. I like the color combinations you've done there. It also looks as if it feels good in the hand. I'm also a fan of deep sheaths and I really like this one, no metal to get in the way, scratch things up or get hung up on things. Easy to stow in ones kit for traveling, camping etc.

    Carbon chrome?

    Yes probably marketing jargon.

    Carbon chrome?

I have an old steak knife that says "carbon chrome" on the blade. The last 1/16" or so of the point is dark but not rough. There are a few small rough spots (like a matte finish instead of mirror like around them........corrosion? It was made by Henley & Co. probably mid century with a carved...

Filling worm holes in Osage Orange

I like the powered pigment from K&G. I use their epoxy as well. I mainly use the black powder, a little goes a long way and it doesn't seem to affect cure time or strength much, at least in my experience with it.

Filling worm holes in Osage Orange

I've only used the powered pigments and fine sawdust/bone dust etc. and have never had any problems. I am careful to not add anymore than needed for the effect desired. If using sawdust I dry it in the oven at the lowest setting on a low humidity day for awhile and use it as soon as it cools...

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Life is great even with the aches and pains. It's like my 89 year old mother said just before she passed..... "Gettin' old ain't for sissies"

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Well I just turned 70 and am still going semi-strong. Been pruning trees and digging holes with my big steel diggin' bar for more trees (rocky ground). I guess if I don't keel over doing that I don't have alot to fear from whatever toxins might be left in an old steak knife. I like using...

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Yea I think my wife is going to nab it because it's "cute" LOL.

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

I probably won't use it unless I know more about the coloring on the blade. The animal appears to be carved from the handle. They seemed to have access to very nice stag back in the day. My wife asked if it was added as well but on close examination I can see that it is carved into the handle...

    Etched and colored vintage knife.

Hello all. I have this nice little stag antlered steak knife by Anton Wingen Jr. with colored etching on the blade. Does anyone know what they used to color the etching and if it's food safe?

Washington Governor Signs Bill Effectively Banning Knives on Public Transportation

Yes THANK YOU for fighting for the rest of us. I live in Washington state and knife rights are just the tip of the iceberg. These people hate our American customs and way of life. They continue to attack anything they see as an established American custom, even pocket knives. They will go...

    Impala Horn Filler

Bondo might work. It heats up quite a bit as it cures so I'm not sure how that would effect the horn. 24 hour epoxy heats up but not as much. As far as wood goes, it would have to be a VERY stable wood and VERY dry I think and totally encapsulated in epoxy. Wood shrinks and expands with...

    Knife Discussion

I'd say you do if you make them to your specs and to fit your hand. The thing is that when someone but you fits the handle, unless you are there to grip and re-grip until it's just right it just won't be a perfect fit in my opinion. That's just me though. I'd rather have a good knife that...

    Handle question

Again me responding to an older post. Axis deer antlers are similar to Sambar in that they usually have very little pith with a single hole in the center. I've believe there are Axis (non-native) in Texas, on and escaped from ranches. I've ordered some rounds for a rapier and dagger(s) set...

    Spencer Aplin/Jordon Berthelot blade design

Those are beautiful as pieces of art but I myself would never use either. First the recurve in the blade profile makes them harder to sharpen. Second the topography of both blades would make cleaning them harder. I like simple to sharpen and clean. I tended not to use a nice knife I owned...

    Mustard patina on pattern weld.

I bought this blade blank awhile back and put it in a walnut handle. At first I liked how dark it looked but for some reason it just didn't look right with that handle. The handle isn't finished yet so it will be alot darker once finished. The blade is 5160, 15n20 and Ni200. I decided to...
